Barrington Area?

Can anyone tell me anything about the barrington area? I've driven through it, but that's about it. Nice place to live? Snobs?

I like the low property tax and giant pieces of land. Sure beats our current situation of no land and high tax!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

We are far from the big money houses! In fact, we are looking there because we can get so much more for our money, and we'd like to spend 100k less. We are in the 100 of thousands, not million range :-)

We are looking in Lagrange but the property sizes are small! Huntley is too far. South barrington isn't far from hubby's work. We will be looking there if our current search doesn't work out. Ideally we want to be near the expressways.

Hubby does not work in the city at this time, though we current live in waking distance to the train.

ETA: If your husband works near S. Barrington why on earth would you look at Lagrange??? You need to consider Bartlett, Fox River maybe consider St Charles, beautiful areas.

I love South Barrington. I would live there in a heart beat if we could live that far out. I've known many people that live in that area and none were snobs, even the ones that lived in million dollar homes. But does your husband work in the city? If yes, then his commute would be terrible.

Would you consider Lagrange? Or are you wanting more north? Maybe Elmhurst? How far west are you willing to go? Sugar Grove and North Aurora or Batavia are very nice areas too.

Very good area, and good for resale since the school district is solid.

Since you seem to be willing to go pretty far out, have you considered Carpentersville or Huntley?

ETA: Other suburbs that might have more land: Glendale Heights, Hanover Park, Itasca

I like Barrington, especially the little downtown part. I'm sure it has it's share of snobs, but my best friend grew up there and she's the least snobbish person I've ever met!

I have friends that grew up there, and friends that live there now. Nice area.

Barrington Hills is where the big $$ is. Personally, I have seen some snobbery there, as a friend's family was part of that area. But I'm sure that's not the case across the board...just in case you are looking at a multi-million dollar home...
