Baptism Gift Ideas? - Rosemount,MN

My nieces are being baptized this weekend. It is a little unconventional, because they are 2 and 4 years old. What would be an appropriate gift? My sister and I practice different religions, so I would prefer not to give a "religious" type of gift. Thanks for any suggestions!

What can I do next?

I gave my niece a really pretty glass tea set. Girls love to play with them and they are close to the age where they could probably play with it without breaking it, the 4 year old anyway. Also, I am doing a name stool for my daughter's 1 year old birthday. The website is namestool.com or hollowwoodworks.com (theyare one in the same) and I got in in the mail, it's adorable. The top of the stool is their name as a puzzle. It does take 3 weeks or so to get it so I don't know your timing.

Open a small college saving account for them! Even $25 is nice. Then the account is set up. You can put gifts for other things in it. Also, your sister can share the account with others that may want to put gifts in it for other things. Someone did this for us and we were oh so greatful!

I remember when I grew up I had received a gift of a mustard seed charm and necklace. I wore it to all special events. With it was a poem, "If ye have faith in a mustard seed, nothing is impossible to you." Wow - it's been over 25 years and I still remember!

There are really cute "prayer box" charms. Silpada Designs sells a cute sterling silver stretch bracelet with the charm box. It's hinged and really opens up. Once they outgrow the bracelet (I'm guessing about 8 or 12 years) they can put the charm on another bracelet or put it on a necklace as a pendant.
If you want info on this, email me and I can send you the link.

Since they are older and might not understand the usefulness of bonds (which I love getting for my son!), how about some jewelry. Get them something small that they can wear now and something special to save for when they are older. We've gotten all my nieces & nephews (baptized as babies and different religions from us) a special necklace to be put away until they are teenagers. It will be something nice for them to think about their baptism, since most children don't remember the actual event.

I probably should have looked at the other answers before I responded, but I went through something similar a couple of weeks ago, my nephew and niece were baptized, my niece is 6 weeks old by my nephew is 10 years old. I ran around trying to find something appropriate since my brother isn't very religous. I ended up going with savings bonds. It's not exciting, but you are helping them prepare for the future, which is in line with a baptism, which is preparing them and welcoming them into their spritual future. Don't know if that helps, but hopefully it does! If you want to give them something cute just to have, you could go to the Build-A-Bear workshop and I think they have bears and baptism outfits that you can put on them. Little girls can never have too many stuffed animals! :)

Since the gift is for the girls who are getting baptised I'd say a picture from with a cross on it. I know you said something non religious but I don't understand that since the day and the gift should surround their belief. If they are non christian and do not believe in the cross then just get a plain picture frame and put a picture in their of them all dressed up on their day. Present the frame the day of then give the photo to them later or wait until you get the photo developed.

Savings Bond,Christian book or toy, try going to one of those religous bible book stores they should have something.

I don't think any age in unconventional. My church doesn't baptize til the age of 8 when the child can make the decision on thier own.

I wasn't baptized til I was 23. My mom's church wouldn't baptize me as a baby and was discriminative.
