I bought engraved wooden crosses from personalizationmall.com for my nephews and niece. Came in the mail within 3 days.
My husband was asked by his sister to be his nieces Godfather (he is very happy about this). We are looking for ideas on what to get her for a gift, as this is new to us. The Baptism is the Sunday after Christmas, so not to far away.
Thanks in advance!!!
PS: She was born on 11/10/09

This doesn't exactly answer your question, but what I wish my children's godparents would have done. A godparent (in my opinion) is someone who cares especially for the child in their day to day AND their religious life. It's not about a bigger gift at Christmas (which can build resentment among siblings), but having a special relationship with the child. Spend extra time with them, go to church together, if possible, be in tune with them as they get older and (depending on your family and religion) go to confirmation - as a godparent, that's what you are promising to do when they are baptized and you are standing up for them. I know this is "future advice" but the ceremony and gifts now aren't as important as the lifelong relationship you CAN have with them, if you choose. Just another opinion!
The gifts that were most meaningful to us when our girls were baptized are the items that have their baptism date on them. My husband is a pastor and it is interesting how many people do not know their baptism date becuase it is not written down in as many spots as a date - like your birthday. My husband makes baptism crosses and plaques in his hobby business www.woodspirations.com - my mom cross stitched a wall hanging and we have a dove with a name plate and date a member gave us... or there are blankets ... or you could take a shell and write the name and date on it (shell is a common symbol) and frame it or something... anyway there are different ways to do it, but I think something that has the baptism date on it is special. :) Congrats!!
A bible, a child's cross necklace, an engraved cross with the date. Anything that you give will be appreciated for this special day. Good luck!
Hi,
I agree with going to the Christian bookstore. They have great baptismal gifts, like Baptismal Bibles and stories. They also have things you would not necessarily think of and items that can be personalized with their names. Of course, if you want to personalize it, be sure to go there in enough time. Not sure of their religion, but there is a Catholic store called "Leaflet Missle" in St. Paul. They have great things, and lots of things there can be used for a Christian Baptism. I get all of my Baptism gifts there (I have a lot of neices and nephews). Good luck and have fun shopping!
My sister-in-law gave a night light in the shape of a cross. It had a very nice saying on it about the child being special and then had a bunch of (like Noah's Ark) animals around and on the cross. VERY CUTE! And so nice because kids really like night lights as they get older. That was the BEST gift that we/our child received!
Another really good gift (if the couple is dedicated to their faith and would read it to their child) is a children's bible. We got one for our kids and they both love looking at the pictures and reading the stories. They are now 4 and 2 and started looking at the book around 2 years old..... But if it will just end up in the corner or a box, then definitely go with something else.
I think the classic gift is a cross necklace.
I think Fill In the Blankie makes a great Baptism gift...or new baby gift! You can personalize all of the sides of silky sides with their birthday, Baptism birthday, name, nicknames, etc. Whatever is special to you, your family or relationship. Here's more information on them: http://uggamugga.blogspot.com/2008/12/fill-in-blankie.html
Hi K.
What we have done for my goddaughter is a charm braclet. I gave her a cross neclace for her baptism, and every year I get her a new pendant to put on her necklace. She then puts the old pendent on the charm braclet. She is now 12 yrs old and we love to look back and talk about her braclet charms. I try to find something meaning full to that year. Like a cross for her baptism, I gave her a ballet shoe pendent for her first year of dance. I really have to pay attention to her and what she is doing to find the right charm. I also give my godchildren a specail godchild orniment for Christmas every year. No matter what you decided to give, your time and love is the most important.
Hi K.,
Go to a Christian book store. You will find some really wonderful children's books with bible stories. My girls received this from a friend of ours and over the years, we read the books over and over to them. There are always lessons to be learned in those stories and learning those stories will give them a good basic beginning of the bible.
Good luck!

Savings Bonds. My girls received Savings bonds as gifts when they were born and at their baptism. I have saved them and now, my one is ready for college, I very much appreciate having them.
I agree also with the cross necklace (except will everyone else be getting them one as well?) If you do decide that this is something you want to consider, I am a consultant for a new unique jewelry line that does have a beautiful cross necklace and cross bookmark. I would be happy to offer my Holiday special - Buy 1 item get 2nd item FREE (this is my personal offer, not the companies - and the order must be in before the end of December) You can check it out at my website at www.snowflakegems.com
Happy Holidays and Congratulations on being Godparents

If you live in the Omaha area then I would check out 3 locations.
Parables at 114th and Dodge
Adoramus Books at 84th in Fredricksons shopping center
Gloria Deo at 132nd and Center
I've been to all 3 of those locations and they all have great gift ideas for Baptisms!
congratulations!
hi there,i guess it depends of her age,i wolud say a framed meaning of a name prints, wall crosses, jewelry,or music box, good luck
I would suggest a nice cross necklace. It could be a child-size necklace to wear now or an adult-size necklace to celebrate her first communion or confirmation.
How about a cross to hang in her room? Both of my boys were given beautiful wood crosses that we hung in their rooms.
How about a babies first Bible with a personal note written inside? My boys also received these at their baptisms.
My boys were also given beautiful Christmas tree ornaments celebrating the God child, God Parent relationship.
How about a sterling silver child's cup with the her name and baptismal date engraved on it? We gave our boys each one at their baptisms.
I had good luck at this site: www.faithfilledgifts.com/ I think we got the gift we purchased within about a week.
Since there are so many replies, I didn't read any... so I hope not to repeat any.
I've always thought that a children's bible is nice. My church gives the Beginners Bible series.
Another thought, since it's a girl, is maybe a cross necklace she can wear later.
My friend gave my daughter a ceramic cross for the wall... in the center of the cross is a picture of a little girl on her knees praying. I have it hanging on the wall above her headboard (bed).
One last thought... a friend of mine received a necklace that you can add a pearl for whatever occasion. She had one pearl for the baptism, one added from the godparent for Christmas, birthday, etc. I think this is a cool idea, but don't know if all the jewlery stores have this (it's the first time I heard of it). She told me that by the time her daughter gets married, she'll have her own full (real) pearl necklace to wear on her wedding day. Pretty neat, huh?
Hope these ideas help you out. Like I said, I didn't read the other posters... so I hope I didn't repeat any.
Good luck finding your gift.
