Have any of you used the giant cupcake mold that is advertised on TV? My husband's birthday is early next month and he has come up with an interesting request. He wants one of these giant cupcakes for his birthday and instead of regular cake mix he has requested that it be a brownie mix. So... can you share your experience if you have used it. Also, I know the brownie mixes instruct you on how to make cake-like brownies but I have never tried it. Do they really come out more like a cake? I am concerned that the mixture will not cook well if the mold is deep as opposed to a flat single layer pan.

I saw a clip about those on tv. They said that they were not worth the money. The cake kept falling apart. I was bummed, i really wanted to buy one :(

My sister made one of these for my daughter's 1st birthday. A word of warning - make sure it's COMPLETELY cooled before trying to take each part out or else it will fall apart!!!

I would think a brownie mix would work well (maybe even better) but it will be THICK!!! Just again, make sure to completely cool it (maybe even overnight).

We have one of the large cup cake molds and my children love it! I did purchase the Wilton brand from Bed, Bath and Beyond. My husband was concerned about baking in soft, plastic looking mold (one advertised on tv). It may be perfectly safe, but we didn't want to chance it.
I don't think the brownies would work, even the cake-like ones. They are too dense. I like the layering idea others have below.
If you decide to use the large cup cake mold, I would practice with it before the big day. I needed to adjust the amount of cake batter used in each side compared to the first time I used it. Hope this helps.

I wouldn't rush out and buy one of those things...chances are you'll use it once and then it'll just take up valuable real estate in your kitchen cabinets. I like Catherine C's idea of stacking "brownie cakes". I would even take it a step further and use a bread knife to shave away at the brownie stack to shape it into a cupcake, then frost it to look like a cupcake...voila giant brownie cupcake! It could be tricky, but I think it's do-able. I don't think you'll be too successful baking a huge brownie cupcake in a deep baking pan because by the time the middle is baked, the outsides would be burnt. The cake-like brownies are just that - a bit more cakey and crumbly and less chewy, but they're still brownies (that is, dense and rich). I don't think the cake-like brownie instructions adjust for a deeper pan like the giant cupcake pans. In any case, I'd be curious to hear how this all turns out - please share the outcome!!

How about just giving it a shot this weekend? I would be nervous about the extra deep part too with brownies. Maybe, if it doesn't work out, he would be okay with brownie chunks in the frosting?

I agree with trying it out before the big day, just to be sure it would work with brownie mix. If it doesn't work, then how about baking several round cake pans' worth of brownies and stacking them? You could use a little frosting in between to keep the rounds from sliding, like a cake.
