What would you submit for a bake off? What about a cookbook? What prized recipies would you be proud to share?

My church is having a bake off this weekend. Well, I was trying to decide what to make. I narrowed it down to Triple Choclate Cake, Baklava, Skinny White Chocolate Pie, or Lemon Squares. I looked at the categories and I have one in mind that fits each category. cake, pie, cookie, candy, and healthy living. Would it be ridiculous for me to enter every category? Is that being selfish or overly competitive? :) Also, they have asked for recipes for the cookbook. I have a good recipe in mind for every category in the book. Am I being one of those people?

ANother issue, one of the recipies is not exactly from scratch...the skinny white chocolate pie is 2 boxes of sugar free fat free white choco pudding mixed with 2 cups of milk and nuefchatel lite cream cheese, poured in a keebler reduced fat ready graham crust, topped with lite coolwhip. Do I dare call that a recipe? Do I dare make something straight from boxes and submit it in a contest?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Ok, so my gut feeling about the pie was right. Now what other dessert can I do for the healthy living category? If I'm gonna go, I want to go all the way! BTW, try the pie. It's so decadent and wonderful, you'd never know it was low fat, low cal.

Give recipes for every category in the cookbook.

As for entering the bake-off I have no idea about etiquette.

My opinion is the bake off should be made from scratch, tried and true recipes. Our school had a fundraiser cookbook and I submitted about 20 recipes and they used all of them! So I would just submit recipes you know and love for the cookbook and see what they use. Good luck.

I think it would be fine to enter each category if you have the time and energy! ;) I, however, am not so sure about the skinny white pie...umm, I'm just not sure I would submit that into a baking contest. Yes, you're making it, but not really from scratch. I don't know, maybe that's just me being a stick in the mud! Read the rules on that one, but even if it's acceptable, I probably wouldn't do it.

Oh but I do think it would be okay to submit for the cook book, people like easy, low cal/fat recipes.

ETA...I sometimes make a low fat tirimisu...find a recipe you like and substitue low fat cream cheese, etc. There really isn't a lot of chocolate, etc. it's the dairy choices that make it fatty. Lady fingers are pretty low fat I think, not much to them. You could also look into fruit desserts, those would be good too.

Yes to all your questions! Enter every category, i guarantee you won't be
the only one:) and make the skinny white chocolate pie! It's still a recipe and you're making it, you didn't buy it straight from the store.

I wish my church would have a bake off, I love to bake and have so many great recipes. I would make either lemon squares, lemon-coconut cheesecake, lemon white chocolate truffles, tiramisu, or red velvet cheesecake cookies just to name a few.

Well you sound like you have a lot of energy.... to bake and make things for each category!
If the "rules" allow it?

And why not submit recipes too?
