I think he should start by seeing a dentist. Untreated tooth problems can cause serious illness, even death.
I'll just bet a dentist would be able to help him out.
That sounds like Gingivitis - he needs to see an oral surgeon or a dentist to figure out what the problem is.
Bad, foul, mouth odor? Could be MANY things - poor oral hygiene, sickness - anything - but the bottom line is that he needs to see a dentist AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!!
In the mean time - he should try Listerine mouth wash - to help with the odor. the bleeding gums are a definite sign of Gingitivis in my opinion!
could be alot of things...in most recent things for me has been when I have had a tooth infection and needed a root canal...tell him to be religous about rinsing with Listerine at LEAST 2 times per day...keep that stuff in your mounth and squish around for at least 1 min

Could be gum disease, or peridontal disease which is advanced gum disease involving the bone around teeth. Could be an infection. Very rarely bleeding gums can be a sign of leukemia or another systemic disease/ infection in the body. would definitely get a check up with dentist/ hygienist and then a follow up physical with blood work to be safe and sound.
