I am 16 weeks pregnant and have been diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis. I have been reading it can cause a miscariage in your second trimester and preterm labor. Has anyone had any experience with this during pregnancy and been okay? I am freaking out!

What can I do next?

i had bacterial vaginosis also in the first trimester of my pregnancy. my son is now 17 months old. he wasnt preterm, he was over due.
i was also worried about it while i was pregnant. Just take the medicine the doctors give you. you and baby will be just fine! good luck

Yick, I had that too when I was pregnant, not sure but I think second trimester as well. I think the issue would be if it went untreated and the infection got so bad it irritated the uterus. Talk to your doctor and take your meds as prescribed.

inserting a Cuturelle tablet every night (and taking one orally) should help balance out your bacterial chemistry. Cuturelle is Lactobaccilus- a freindly bacteria that will fight off invaders and also yeast.

Hi J R,

I had BV during my pregnancy with my twins. Unfortunately, my Doctor didn't catch it in time, and I lost both boys at 20 weeks. It also wreaked havoc in the postpartum period, too...UTI from hell! I also had BV during my next pregnancy, but my Doctor and I were overly cautious, and if I had any symptoms, she was quick to get me on antibiotics. I don't know why, but during that pregnancy, I got it twice. It was so scary! But the antibiotics kept it under control, and my son is now almost 1 and healthy. If you have any symptoms, get into your doctor, stat! I was not aware of anything unusual, and missed the symptoms, but after reading up on BV, I could look back and see the symptoms that I had missed. Good luck, and don't worry-just be informed.
