Babysitter's Birthday... What to Buy Her??

I have a terrific babysitter whose birthday is tomorrow and she's turning either 28 or 29 tomorrow. She's only babysat my 3 kids for about 2 months, but is WONDERFUL. The kids love her, she takes great care of them, and she doesn't charge me very much because she knows I'm a single mother and can't afford much. I'd like to get her something within reasonable price for her birthday from the kids and I. Only problem is, she babysits 24/7 - all 3 shifts INCLUDING weekends. She's NEVER without the kids, so something like a gift certificate to a spa or something is out of the question, as is dinner for 2 for her and her hubby. I don't want to get her a generic Wal-Mart gift card or anything... I want there to be thought involved. Any suggestions??? I'm going to the store tonight to see what I can find!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well I had a lot of terrific suggestions for my babysitter, but I was thinking along the same lines as a few and the kids and I got her a BIG bouquet of different wildflowers and carnations (CHEAPER THAN ROSES YET STILL BEAUTIFUL!) and a cheapy vase that I let the kiddos decorate with paint, white-out, stickers, etc. and wrote their names and in big bold letters "THANK YOU FOR TAKING SUCH GOOD CARE OF US! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" She was shocked and I could tell she was touched :) Thanks for all the suggestions - I'll take the advice in stride for a future occasion! :)

How about have the kids make her something crafty, then make her dinner and give her flowers. Something to show that you appreciate her. You don't have to buy anything expensive, it's the thought and she would love something from the kids.

Sounds like your sitter is really into kids. I would do something that is about the kids. Like get her one of those frames that holds many pictures and put pix of the kids in it making silly faces for her. Maybe take the paper framing out of it and let them decorate it a bit with fingerprints (craft paint or something). Then perhaps a small gift basket from you. You could put in face care items for home, lotions, loofahs, perfume, whatever you want to. This can be done really inexpensively. Dollar General and Wal Mart both sell many trial size items that would fit nicely into the basket. Good luck with your projects! I commend you for thinking of your sitter! Shannon G.

I'm a babysitter as well and I got a framed picture of the little guy I watch... maybe a pretty frame with a picture of her and the kids? It would be thoughtful, something she could hold onto forever, and inexpensive... hope you find that perfect gift!

What about making her a spa gift basket. Get some spa-type lotions, creams, candles, oils, etc. with a bottle of wine/champagne, or even just a bottle of non-alcoholic bubbly, with 2 pretty wine glasses.
Or if she likes to read, what about some books? You could even make a gift basket out of that, but putting in a CD of quiet instrumental music, a new book, and candles, with some flavored tea and a coffee mug.

I know I am late, but didn't see these suggestions, so maybe for next time...

How about a book, CD, magazine (individual issue or a subscription), DVD?
Also liked the idea of some time off for her--I hope she doesn't get burned out if she's with kids 24/7! You want to keep her!

Hope things turned out well.

She sounds very busy and you sound very lucky to have her. You should check out my website for the Body Shop at Home. We have nature inspired skin care products that are absolutely amazing. You could get her some of the peppermint foot line and she can give herself a pedicure in her home in her own time. There are tons of other things that you can find to pamper her in her own time. My website is www.thebodyshopathome.com/web/aoaks.
My favorites are the spa wisdom line and the peppermint line and the coconut line (smells just like the coconut tanning oil!)
Good luck finding her something and I am sure she will appreciate anything that you decide on!

Could you give her a spa treatment along with a few hours off? I'm sure she would appreciate a little down time. You have found a wonderful sitter, so hang on to her!

If she doesn't get out much, how about something like candles or bath beads or crystals? Or even just a great scented body wash. Bath & Body Works sometimes has good sales & I know I love their stuff but can't usually afford it. A restuarant gift certificate and she could have the choice to go out or order in. Maybe even just planning a cute little "party" when she's with your kids & order pizza to be delivered and get a little cake from the grocery. Yes, she'll have to do the work, but isn't it the thought that counts. She doesn't have to think about what to make for lunch or dinner.

I'm not sure where you are located, but in the Columbus area there is Cafe Courier. They deliver meals from different restaurants around town, and I'm certain they have gift certificates. Although your babysitter doesn't get out of the house, maybe she and her hubby could enjoy dinner from somewhere they don't normally take the kids. If you got her a $20 GC, it would at least pay for a portion of their meal. :)

Maybe a gift card from a bed, bath and beyoned type of store and pictures made by the kids?
