I nanny for a family. they have 2 children. My rates are $8 for one and $10 when it is both. I am an adult. Don't think it would be worth messing with for my time for less than that. A teenager might do it for less.

I would say How demanding is your child? What kind of need do they require? And There is no price tag for the care of my kids.Im willing to pay a good provider for the health and life of my kids! There's alot of bad people out there that do it just for the money. If you find someone that takes good care of your kids it's worth every dime :)

Hi Lysa,

I run a very successful babysitting service for the past 4 years. I have 33 families and no complaints on my pay. (I use to be an Asst Director in the daycare field as well)

I researched avg around the us as well as Texas before coming up with my rates.

I charge $12/hr for 1-2 children and $2 per hour per child after.

The avg sitter in the US makes $12/hr for 1 child and $2 per child per hour after. With a 4 hour minimum and will travel 30 minutes if they are farther there is a $10 out of area fee.

Also if is an overnight or weekend sitter there are other rates. Oh also you have to take into consideration if they are CPR/First aid certified and have experience ( i wouldnt leave my daughter with anyone who wasn't) also their age! Even though i babysat when i was under 18 if you have infants or toddlers I would make sure the person is 18 or older.

Hope this helps!

I think there are a lot of factors in figuring it out. We usually pay about $5 per hour plus $5 gas money when we pay. Our kids are older: 12 and 9, and we've been using the same "pay schedule" for several years... We have never had any complaints or anyone not willing to watch our kids if they were available (several jump at the opportunity).

Part of that may be that we are very generous in other ways, though. I always make sure that there are snacks and drinks (I try to find out their preference and have whatever it is, coke vs. pepsi, diet vs regular, Vitamin water... whatever) for them and the kids (microwave popcorn is ALWAYS a hit with our kids AND the sitter). AND if we will be gone anytime before 6 pm, we always provide dinner for the sitter AND the kids... either I time it to have a fresh pizza here or pick up salads at ChikFilA or subs from Larry's or whatever they like. Clean up is easy to non-existant (throw the trash in the garbage and put the plates in the sink), and keep the kids safe. They are old enough (and have been for a while) to get themselves ready for bed.. the sitter just has to tell them it's time.
They are free to use the telephone, or watch DVD's, TV or instant Netflix on the Wii. Kid approved stuff only if they kids are still awake.

Our sitters are usually high school jr/senior age... and don't have outside jobs. They are often heavily involved in school/sports, and so they enjoy the extra $$ without having to be committed to a schedule. (Although we had a college student who would watch them when she was home in the summer sometimes --- she started out watching them when SHE was about 13, lol).

I think you need to ask around your specific area and with the specifics of your circumstances in mind... how many kids, meal prep involved or not, bedtime involved or not, baths or not, daytime/nighttime, if your kids require tons of hands-on or not (their ages?).... You'll probably get a better idea of what you are trying to figure out.

My babysitter is 3 an hour. I think normally she charges 5 an hour.. it depends.. she's in-home and is a total doll with the kids. I just got the family discount, she's my cousin lol. Be sure to grill em and show up randomly lol there alot of bad people out there babysitting for the wrong reasons. I wouldn't suggest someone under 18...

My daughter is 16 and regularly babysits for 3 families. She gets anywhere from $12-$15 per hour cash. 2 of these families have 3 children, 1 has an only child.

She never set a rate. That is just the going rate in my area of Plano/Allen.

We've always had date night weekly since she was a baby. We guaranteed $40 no matter what, if we had to cancel, etc then we paid on top of that. Date nights for us were routinely $60-$80 cash.

Whenever I can go out, I have a 14yr old watch my daughter (her mom is my daycare provider). She doesn't have a set rate, but I typically pay her $3 an hour, plus I make sure she has snacky stuff and pop/whatever to drink.

The girl I had before her was a junior in H.S, she charged me $5 an hour and after she lied alot. Not only did she lie, she didn't pick up after herself or my daughter, I always came home to a mess. So, I found someone else who picks up after herself and my daughter.

I do not sit, but I pay my sitter $5 plus $5 per hours for 2 kids, so 2 hours is $15, 4 hours would be $25 ect... How much sitters charge also varies by location.
