Babysitter Fee

Timely question because I'm about to have a teenage babysitter watch my 2 kids for the first time (4 yr old and 20 month old.) When I talked with her, she said she didn't really have a set rate - just what I felt was reasonable. Sweet response, but I needed to probe further. She said that she once received $10/hr/child but that was considered very high. Usually closer to $3-$5/hr.

We pay our 13 year-old babysitter $8.00/ hour for our 2 year-old son. However, I am told by other suburban moms that $5.00/hour is sufficient.

i asked the same question and got answers from 5-8$ per hour. That seems to be about the average.

I usually pay between $7-$8 per hour. My sitter started watching my then 6 month ols son - when she was a freshman in HS. I now pay her $8 per hr when she became a soph. and CPR certfied. I think this is so important. You can also find young girls in Child development courses thru the local colleges lookling for extra money. Look at COD in the child development area. They usually post help wanted/needed ads.

I've heard a variety of numbers. We have two kids and usually pay about $10/hour. I think that's a little high, but we really like our babysitter.

I live in Downers Grove, and, I hear the going rate is 5-6.00 an hour, although I pay my sitter 10.00 an hour. I feel it's a bit costly, but, she is a certified life-guard, trained in CPR, knows the heimlich maneuver, and, both my chidren adore her. I hope this helps to answer your question. Take Care,

I live in Oak Park and pay $10 per hour. If we go out for the evening, I also leave the person a $20 for pizza. Hope this helps!
