I was wondering if anyone has tried the gummi crib rail protectors...my 9 month old is chewing the heck out the crib rails. I bought a cloth one on -line from babies r us but it only covers 1 side of the crib..there are 3 other sides exposed. His crib is a convertible one and I've heard the adhesive ones don't really stay on. I was wondering if any one has a solution.

What can I do next?

Don't worry, this is not pica. I know tons of kids who chew the crib rails (including my extremely healthy 1-year-old breastfed son who eats everything, including veggies) and it's because they are teething, not because they have a nutritional deficiency. I got the cloth ones that velcro on (the Leachco brand) I put them on so the velcro is on the outside and my son can't reach it. I just bought an extra one, cut it in half, and had my mother sew up the cut sides. They fit the sides rails perfectly. My son has left the back rail against the wall alone, so I didn't bother covering that part. My sister-in-law tried the hard plastic things from Prince Lionheart and said they fell off all the time.
She also tried the jelly sticky kind but said it didn't stick well. I was a little wary of it. I don't want my son chewing on gummy plastic like that and ingesting chemicals. Plus when you remove it, all the adhesive gets stuck on the crib.
Here is the one I bought and I really like it. It washes well too.

Hi R.,

I bought crib protectors from www.onestepatatime.com. Unfortunately there is on one in a box. But it really worked.

Remember that all kids have their own "time tables" to do things. i think my daughter had that amount of teeth around that time.

Don't know much about the gummy rails but my daughter just turned 1 on 1/31 and she has 13 teeth already. By 9 months she had as many as your son - I think 8 already actually. I've read that the way a baby teethes is heriditary. My daughter had her 1st tooth by 5 months - I had it at 3 months. So in our case it was kinda true.

YES, they stink!! We tried several batches and also tried glue and now our crib is ruined. I threw them out anyway b/c the glue wouldn't work on some parts, like the part that folds over. You'd need 50 clamps to hold them down while they dried. Hated it. Our baby isn't up and teething yet, so I'd like some ideas too!

I have one from onestepahead.com So far I'm very happy with it - it has been on for months.. It is adhesive and has stayed on fine.. It is only covering the front of the crib (I have a converatble too) but she dosn't seem to chew on any of the other sides..

I used the gummi crib rails and it worked for us. Originally I bought the plastic rails but my son was too smart and learned he could pull them off . But the gummi rails have adhesive so its not coming off (I'm actually not sure it will ever come off, which is fine with me)

Ugh they stink! But there aren't a lot of options. :( The solid ones wouldn't fit over my crib rails, so we did go with the adhesive ones. We ended up using super glue to keep it sticking.

Thus, the crib will never be cute and newborn-looking again! But my son had already gnawed the wood a bunch anyways, so I guess it wasn't some big loss...

Hi R.
Have you told the MD that your son is "chewing the heck out of the crib rails"? It is a nutritional deficiency. Pica, is usually a zinc or iron deficiency. Just thought you would be interested. Check it out & ask your MD.
God bless you and your wonderful son
By the way all 4 of mine had a full set of teeth by 10 months and MD didn't think it was odd. In fact my oldest had a twin tooth so he had an extra, but they wouldn't declare it so til much later.
