Baby Wraps / Baby Wearing

Does anyone have experience with the Moby Wrap and/or the Baby K'Tan wrap? I need something that will keep my preemie daughter close. The ring sling simply didn't feel secure or comfortable when I used it on her brother (who came home under 5 lbs.)

Also, if you know a place in Oak Park/Forest Park/River Forest or the surrounding suburbs that have one or both wraps available to try, please let me know. I need to get one within the week.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you, everyone, for the great advice! I wasn't aware of the conference, and unfortunately can't go (C-section, kid in hospital and all) but it's so good to know that it's there and the local places that can help out too. I'll be checking on the links sent and this kid should be "wrapped up" by the time she gets home. :)

I don't have exp. in those particular brands but I do use my ellaroo wrap all the time. I also didn't care for the ring sling. I learned a lot through www.thebabywearer.com . If you look at their video section, there are lots of how to videos to help. I'd suggest learning one wrap really well and sticking to it before trying others. Even at 18 months, I still wear him in a FWCC! As far as getting one quick, you can really just run to the fabric store and get a few yards of fabric if you don't care about finished edges. Just make sure to get one that doesn't stretch horizontally & vertically but that does give on a diagonal (I'm pretty sure; double check on the baby wearer DIY).

I started to carry the Moby Wrap in my practice last year... I love that it is ergonomic/ all cotton, the closedt to kangaroo mother care that I have seen. able to be easily worn by mom, dad and grandparents... every one who has bought them from me has loved them.

Hi H.,

I had both a Moby wrap and also a hotsling. I loved the hotsling when my daughter was little, it was very easy to just throw on and no tying or wrapping involved. I got it at hotslings.com. There are many different materials and patterns to choose from. The customer service is great too. I liked the Moby wrap too because it had so much material it would fit me or my husband. It takes a little practice, but once you get the hang of it, it is easy. I also purchased this online.

Many years ago I used the Baby Bundler... just a long piece of knit fabric that you can wrap a gazillion ways. I had an extremely high need child and literally wore him for the first two years of his life. At first it was a hassle tying it, but I soon became proficient and could tie it in a wink. (In my sleep, it seems!) I just went to their site, http://www.babybundlers.com/ and found that they have gone organic.

I had a 28 week little one and love the Moby Wrap.

It is a lot of material and can pose some challenges like putting on in public, wearing in with no baby in public kinda looks silly unless people know what it is, it can get hot wearing it outside in the summer.

Having said that, I would do it all again at a drop of a hat. So worth it. I WISH I had it with my first one. I would have gotten TONS more accomplished. Also, I think it is a lot more comfortable than a Baby Bjorn. It swaddles them and not only is swaddling good for them, but it calms them. With preemies, I thing it would be easy to use it for for a long time because most likely they will be smaller than an average child. I recommend it to all my friends - - even those have a 2nd or 3rd + child!

I just went to Be By Baby, their class is every other Saturday 10-1130am and costs $15 (pretty much so people don't cancel). I found it VERY helpful.
My husband and I have a Maya wrap from a friend, but the other one we loved and I think would also work for a preemie then beyond is the Mei Tai wrap. That one is $85, I recall, but nice and easy.

I think the baby wearing should help so much for the little one's growth and development! Also consider learning how to do baby massage. Love it, and it's helping us bond with our 9 weeker. I know someone who teaches it one on one, but I don't know her prices. email me if you want her info ____@____.com

all the best.

My baby was a 34 weeker and I love my moby wrap. He is now 15lbs and I still love it. I definitely recommend the moby as it is the best thing we have for our baby. You can get it on line at babycottonbottoms.com or The Baby Center. The Baby Center is having a sale on them right now.
