What's the difference in baby wraps? Maya and Moby look alike. How are they different? I have been told that some wraps give your back more support than others.

What can I do next?

Maya is a ring sling, and most of the weight is distributed across one shoulder. (I have heard if you wear it for long periods of time that you can switch shoulders).

The Moby wrap is a tie wrap- a long swatch of fabric that you can wear/tie in different positions. It distributes the weight more evenly. I have neck problems and the Moby wrap was hands down the most comfortable carrier for me, could wear it for hours. However it isn't as good for really hot days since it is kinda like wearing an extra t-shirt.

Both grow with baby (are adjustable) but both have a little bit of a learning curve. I know moms who love both.

http://www.peppermint.com/guide.html has a comparison of different baby carriers.

I did not own a Maya, but I had a Moby and it was fantastic for my new baby. As mentioned, it is a 15 foot piece of stretchy cotton material that you tie up. Took a little practice to learn how to wrap it, but then I ended up loving it. Very comfortable and so cozy and calming for the baby. When baby was around 4-5 months, I found it to not be as comfortable and supportive due to the baby's weight and I switched to a different type of carrier. I am not sure if the Maya is good for larger babies. Just be careful with whichever type of wrap you choose because there is a risk of suffocation for the baby. You do not want the material to cover the baby's face. There are other guidelines for how to "babywear" safely. Enjoy!

I LOVED my moby! I wasn't a fan of the maya because I didn't like messing with the ring on my collar bone. I also have a gypsy mama wrap that is gauze. The moby is much more forgiving because it is stretchy so you can make it really tight and then just tug a little to losen it. The gauze is nice because it is cooler, but a little more intimidating I think. With my first, I only used the moby and loved it. My second was born in May and I got the gypsy mama because I was getting hot when we were out in the park. LOVE, LOVE wraps!!! Good luck!

I loved my version of the moby wrap. There is a video done by a dad on you tube that explains how to do the basic wrap. There are several different ways you can use this for your comfort and the baby. I measured the path around my body that the wrap took and added 15 inches for the tie. I went to walmart clearance and bought stretchy fabric and hemmed the edges and my total was 18.00 I think they wanted almost 40.00 at the time. I had the maya sling and never felt secure with the way it held the baby.
