Baby with Gerd

My 10-week-old was just diagnosed with GERD and started on prevacid yesterday. I was wondering what other moms' experiences have been with this - how long it took for the medicine to work, how effective it was, when the babies symptoms subsided, etc. I've read a little about it in "What to Expect..." and Dr. Sears, but I think reading actual experiences would help. I'm due to go back to work in a couple of weeks and I'm nervous about having my son in daycare, before his gerd is under control.

What can I do next?

hi D., my first son had severe gerd. although part of the issue was he had brain damage from a bad birth. we tried sereral meds & changed his formulas. but the best thing we found was to feed him smaller ammounts & not let him move or be moved for at least 20 mins. that was a huge help. the formula he ended up being on was nutrmagin. it is very broken down, so the baby's body doesnt need to do much to digest it. his last reflux med was prilosc(compounded, liquid form). this worked well for a while. but his was so severe he needed sugery....not as scary as it sounds. im sure your son isnt anywhere near this. my sons tummy flap(that keeps food & acids down) was stuck open...partly due to the brain injury. so there was nothing more meds & diet could do for him. i wish you luck. & congrats on the baby!!! Hi,

My almost 5 yr old also had GERD as an infant. He took Baby Zantac for about a year and also we switched to Enfamil AR and it worked wonders! The medicine should start working within days. Good Luck!

I gave my son baby zantac from 5 weeks until he was one. It was awful, we had to hold him completely vertical for 30 to 45 minutes after he had a bottle to keep it down. Before the zantac, he screamed all of the time. After 1 full day on Zantac, he was a new baby - still would spit up his entire bottle if we didn't hold him completely vertical, but he never cried. It worked wonders. He is now 5 and eats everything in sight with no problems.

Hi D.,
I would never give my child a chemically based pill to solve an issue such as gerd. There is a product called ultimate aloe. Just as aloe heals burns on the outside, this juice heals from the inside. It is all natural so there would be no side effects or long tem effects that would be adverse. I specialize in natural healing and would love to pass the info on to you. Send me your e amil and I will forward the info to you!!

Hi D.!
My son had the same thing! After a month of not sleeping and screaming he was put on Zantac. If you find the prevacid is not working contact the Dr. and have it switched. With my son it worked within a week! He was a different baby!! My son grew out of it at about 3 or 4 months. He isnt on anything anymore. Hope this helps!

Hi D.,
I feel for you. My Daughter had reflux terrible. She took Zantac and eventually out grew it. But although the medicine didn't completley resolve the problem it certainly helped.
