Hey All

My friend has a 5month old baby but her baby has refused to take the bottle. She is getting ready to go back to work and she is really concerned that her child is going to starve because of this problem. Please let me know if you have any tips on helping the baby take the bottle. She is breastfeeding but she wants to start pumping and letting the baby drink the milk from the bottle. And as you can imagine its so limiting and restricting that she cannot go anywhere because she has to be home all the time with the baby to breastfeed.

Any tips will be very helpful

Thanks

I agree - skip the bottle and go for a cup or a sippy cup. Yes, it's hard to get a lot of food down this way, but it will get her out of the house. My son didn't start refusing b ottles until 7 months and at that point we ended up also trying to mix a LOT of my pumped milk into his food for him. That will be an option for your friend in another month or so...

Adiri bottle worked for my daughter and me when she was 5 month old at the time. First couple times was fed to her by someone else besides me, because she could smell my milk. Good luck for your friend! What a super hard transition for the baby and your friend!

Skip the bottle and give the baby breastmilk in a little cup. BEST advice I was ever given. The biggest reason most breastfed babies won't take a bottle is because it was introduced too late BUT it's no big deal plus there is no weaning from the bottle later! :) My 6 month old baby won't take a bottle but loves to drink out of a cup.

I agree with the other comments. At 5 months, the baby should be old enough for a sippy cup. The benefit is no bottles to wash/sterilize and it's easier to wean a baby from a sippy cup than from a bottle.
