Hi
I loved my maya wrap but my 6 1/2 month old is 23 lbs and is killing my back with the weight distribution. I would love to use a soft carrier back pack like the ergo but don't know of other brands. Any one use these and if so can you give me the brand. Thanks
A.

Hey A.-

I had a Snugli, but it had a few rough corners and scratched my kids on a couple of occasions....I would avoid that brand. Some people swear by Baby Bjorn. Backpacks for infants are such a great concept... I loved having two hands to play with my toddler and load her into the car, etc. Two young ones is tricky!

Good luck,
G.

the hug-a-bub is the best ever soft wrap sling... the weight is distributed very well... no back aches... they cost about $90 on the internet to buy new.. but i got mine off e-bay for a little less than $50... I would spend $90 on it now though, i just wasn't sure before i tried it.

Hi A.,

I also used a maya wrap pouch when my son was smaller and loved it!! But when he was grew to 22-24 pounds, I found I couldn't handle the weight. I used a Baby Bjorn "Active", with the great back support, during this time for our walks and it's worked wonderful also. Again, after he got to be 24 pounds, the bjorn didn't hurt my back, but my shoulders were killing me from just 30 minutes walking. My best solution for the weight was a maya wrap sling, where I could put him on my hip, I just had to take a break more often from holding him, which wasn't easy for him or me, since he was carried most of his younger months. Another idea you can try, though I don't have one, is a back-style mai tai type carrier. A girl in Starkville sells her own style for alot cheaper than you can find commercially. Check out the "She carries" on her website www.sewhappyembroidery.net. I have tried the carrier once with my then 26 pound son and it was nice, though I didn't wear it long enough to determine how good the weight distribution would be.

A little about me:
Newer stay at home mom and loving it! 33-year old mother of one...14 month son! I love to read, cook, and any outdoor activities.

I had a snugli and a baby bjorn - my babies were very big and I could never use them. I've seen one that is the same concept but baby is worn on hip. If I had it to do over I would try that one for a larger baby!

The baby hawk is great. You can get them in OKC at Sorella Due Children's Boutique in Yukon off of Main Street. They have several different types of carriers you can try. They will help you actually try them with your baby to see what feels best and then you can shop around the store for awhile to really test it out. Their website with address is www.sorelladue.com
Good Luck!!

Definitely meet with your local babywearing group

http://www.magiccityslingers.com/

"The Magic City Slingers meet the first Wednesday of each month at 10 a.m. in West Homewood at Shades Valley Community Church. They renovated the old Ice House at 160 Oxmoor Rd."

Besides an Ergo, you might also like a bECO or a BabyHawk. And consider a wrap (Storch, Didy, Vatanai). The ladies at the meeting should be able to help you try on different carriers and help you decide which one is best for you.
