Baby's Changing Eating Habits

I have two twin boys and they are normally great eaters. They love vegetables, fruits and will eat just about anything that I put in front of them. However, lately my 2nd born twin has been very picky. He's the larger of the two but by no means fat (he's in the 75 percentile on weight and 90 percentile on height) and for the last week, I can barely find anything that he will eat. The other twin is still my great eater and now eats more than his brother and his weight is still in the 9 percentile (height is 80 percentile). Sometimes my 2nd born won't even try the food first, he immediately shakes his head and puts up a fight if I persist. So I try to give him another choice and sometimes I win but sometimes I don't. So, one day I thought that I would insist on him only having the two choices that I gave him or he wouldn't eat. Well, I don't think I really won because he woke up at 10:30 pm crying and I couldn't get him to go back to sleep for 2 hours, then he woke up again a half hour later crying. I finally realized that he was hungry. They are only 16 months old, but I heard that sometimes babies change and don't eat as much as they used to. Is this true? Have you experienced this and him eating just 3 bites of a healthy meal is still good? I know he eats a good breakfast, life cereal with a banana and whole milk but then it's downhill the rest of the day. Today for lunch he only ate Yo-baby yogurt and a few ritz crackers with about a handful of grapes (I quartered them for him) where is brother ate both his and his brother's turkey. Your advice will be greatly appreciated.

Some really great advice that I heard was to not look at what a kid eats on a single day, but to look at it over the week.

Personally, I don't believe in making a big deal out of meals because I think it leads to food issues (hello, have 'em myself, lol).

I make sure I have selection of healthy foods (and some treats) available all day. My son tends to graze all morning and then eats much less in the afternoon. Sometimes 2 bites of dinner. But I know he had a good breakfast, so I don't worry too much.

Kids won't starve themselves.

Good luck!

This is normal, an from you just listed he had today he has ate more and better than my 5 year old. I would be careful about offering him different things once the meal is served, unless you want to become a short order cook. Going to bed hungry a night or 2 will not hurt him, and it will teach him to eat at meal time like he is supposed to.
