Baby Talk - Willis,TX

My daughter started Mother's Day Out this year. She has always had a really good vocabulary and had never whined or talked in a baby voice. About 2 weeks ago she started using this baby voice that she said a little boy sounded like in her class. I do not answer her when she speaks to me in this voice and tell her she needs to talk like a big girl. She will listen to my request but then the next time she talks it is back to a baby voice. I don't know if this is a phase or what to do. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

this is definitely a phase! my 3 year old daughter has started doing the same thing but its only because shes copying the 4 year old boy thats her best friend. She copies everything he does and even repeats everything he says word for word. your daughter will get over this phase eventually as will mine. i also dont answer my daughter when she does the baby talk and if i do say something its, your not a baby stop acting like it. i wouldnt worry about it, kids will be kids and they love to play pretend and theyre just pretending like they're babies...at least thats what my daughter tells me...mommy im just pretending im a baby and she goes into the baby talk

My oldest and youngest both went through 'baby talk' phases. It was annoying but we didn't make a big deal out of it and it passed in time. In my experience, when we make a big fuss about something, it tends to last longer than if we just ignore it. I think it is a phase and will pass eventually. Don't worry! Good luck.

I am inclined to think it is a phase. My son put an ia on the end of all his words for a while. Like mamia, dadia, milkia...etc. We don't know why he started this and he did it for awhile. I asked about it on here as well and most people said it was a phase. We didn't ever use words with his little alteration and we didn't pay much attention to it and it passed in a couple months I think. I think if you don't call a lot of attention to it, it will probably phase out on it's own. Good luck!

It's definitely a phase and nothing to worry about. Just keep doing what you are doing and encouraging her to talk like a big girl. She may still talk like that occasionally because she likes it, and may pretend with her toys and animals etc. It's a way of using her imagination.

At that age my son was a different super hero every day and would get mad if I didn't call him by i\his super hero name!

It is a phase. She is experimenting with voice and language. You are handling it well. Do not make a big deal out of it.

Just a phase. You're handling it just right. Don't make a big issue of it though, or she'll use it to annoy you. Good Luck.
