I have a 1month and 1/2 old baby. She is my second child. But for some reason I can't remember if I used sun screen at this early on. If you use sunscreen on you child this young what do you recommend?
The chemicals in sunscreen are not good for babies, hence it's recommended that you wait until they're six months old or older. In the meantime, keep baby out of the sun or covered. If you decide you need sunscreen, use a physical blocker (with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide) rather than a chemical sunscreen. Brands that have physical blockers are Badger, California Baby, Alba Baby and a few others.

I have a 3 month old, and asked this of our pediatrician at her 2 month well check. She said of course it's best to keep her out of the sun, and in the shade, but when needed you can use some sun screen on her exposed parts (arms and legs). With 2 other very active little boys it is impossible for me to never take her in the sun, and it's obviously best to put something on her than letting her burn. They just don't have as much skin as older kids and it's bad for them to absorb all of those chemicals, so just use sparingly, and only where really necessary.
Wholefoods has a lot of natural ones Badger and California Baby. Badger doesn't have the best smell and is somewhat thick, BUT I took my son to the Indy 500 -in 2010- it was the hottest race in history. 100 degrees. I kept applying the Badger. Everyone looked crisp as a frenchfry at the end of the day and my son had no burn what so ever - he was his lily white self!
Test a small patch of skin with the sunscreen and if no reaction, then go for it when necessary.

When I can't splurge on Arbonne, I put Aveeno on my babies.
I would not use sunscreen at all. I would say get at least one UV sunsuit. like this one http://www.alexandme.com/Sun_Busters_Baby_UV_UPF_SPF_One_... You can had wash it in dreft everyday. I know you can get them cheaper than this one. If you buy it a little bigger you can roll the sleeves up and the pants and it should be good for a year. Then you can just have her in this, she will keep cool. I love these sunsuits. I was a professional nanny for twenty years and I highly recommend an outfit like this for a baby, especially if you are going to be outside a lot with your older child. Then you don't have to worry.
I've read that you aren't supposed to use sunscreen on babies younger than 6 months old.
You're supposed to wait until they are like 6 months old. At this age, you should keep them out of the sun, in the shade, or covered. Obviously, if you can't do that, using some sun block is much better than letting your baby get sunburned. We use Sun Shades...non-toxic and safe for all ages.
The longer you wait to start using sunscreen, the better! Exposure to all those chemicals can lead to health problems. Shade is your best friend! :)
No sunscreen on babies under 6 months. They need to be kept out of the sun or in UV-safe clothing and hat.
Also make sure to not only keep in mind the UV-exposure, but babies so young are also as risk for overheating and dehydrating very fast.
Just stay in the shade and relax.

No sunscreen or bug spray until they are at least 6 months old. Their skin is so thin that the sunscreen will just go through it and get into their blood stream. My ped always recommended putting on light cotton long sleeves and a good hat.
no sunscreen until 6 mo. I know, it's hard, this was me last summer...however for all moms, once they hit 6 mo. I highly recommend the Arbonne sunscreen. All natural, goes on beautifully and you won't have any tears or iritation! :) A little pricey, but worth it.
