Baby Struggling on Enfamil

I'm curious what you would advise on this. My baby girl will be 7 months old this weekend. Since we are having a difficult time financially, we got WIC help. They give Enfamil in our area. Here's the thing...she originally was on Similac formulas & did fine. When she tried the original & then the gentleease, she started fussing & eating less. Mylicon wasn't helping either. Now she's tried the Lactofree & she's the same way plus spitting up some. The nurse at her ped office said not to worry. Well, I'm not, but my baby girl has usually been a VERY happy baby & didn't spit up with Similac at all. Anyone had this experience? I'm thinking of trying to find a cheaper formula that will help us finacially.

What can I do next?

Dear MK,

When my son stopped breastfeeding and went to formula, I also used similac. It is so expensive-- so we did find an alternative formula that safeway makes. It is the safeway select brand with dha and ara. He didn't have much of an issue transitioning. Hope this helps.

My son is on Nestle but he started off with Similac in the beginning. We stopped using the Similac just because of the foam that it produces. Does Enfamil produce any type of foam?? If so, I am just curious if it's maybe the air bubbles in it that is making her spit up?? It also be because she's being switched around with the formulas. That's all the advice that I could give. Just don't get discourage and keep trying. If you want, maybe try Nestle and see if that helps. We were on the green label (sorry I don't remember the exact name) but now uses the orange label. Let me know how it goes.

I haven't tried any formulas so I can't help you much in that area. However, if you go to www.verybestbaby.com and sign up, they send coupons for Nestle's Goodstart. Each month there are coupons sent with a brochure about that age group. I get coupons for $8.00 off which would help considerably.

Best of luck in finding the right formula.

I have read on the internet and in parenting magazines that the store brand formulas are practically identical to name brand. Target carries a brand that was advertised in 'American Baby'. Our daughter is formula fed and loves Good Start. We switched through 2 different kinds of Similac formulas and finally settled with Good Start - it seems to digest very easily (she had a tough time digesting the Similac Advanced and Similac Sensitive).

Read the article and accompanying links on this site...it has some great information! Good Luck!!

Someone told me that she read somewhere Enfamil is the hardest formula to digest but who knows if that is actually true. Seems like every kid (and tummy) is different. We tried a few (Enfamil, Kirkland/Costco brand, Target brand, Nestle,) and then finally went back to and settled on Similac Isomil Soy and seemed to have much less spit-up and gas with that one. However, at about the same time we switched bottles and I really think the Dr. Brown's bottles made a big difference. They have a tube in them that helps the air go to the bottom of the bottle and not to the baby. Maybe give them a try and see if that helps. We have loved them and just bought the Dr. Brown's training/sippy cup to move on to. Hope you find what works for your little one!
