What kind of formula are you using? If it's not the sensitive one I would switch to it and see if it helps. It could be that he's having difficulty processing the protein in cow's milk which is a base for regular formula.
My son is 3 months old and has acid reflux. I read that putting a little rice cereal in with his formula actually helps babies with reflux. We started doing that when he was around 7 weeks old, and it worked fine. The past couple of days he has been spitting up non stop, even with the rice in his bottle. I'm not talking about just a little, I'm talking about half of his bottle. It's not only right after he eats, but 1 1/2 to 2 hours after he eats. I'm not sure what else to try. I've spoken to his pediatrician's office and they assure me it's normal for babies to spit up, but it just worries me. I'm a first time mom so all of this is new to me!

When my baby was same age with yours,he vomited the same.At first ,doctor said it is fine if baby vomit less than 1 oz.But more than that ,then we need medication,I am sorry I don't remember exactly the name of the medication the doctor gave my son,it is family of zantac, different name.Have your baby visited by a doctor and ask the doctor ,don't ask the office staff.Good luck .
get him on baby zantac. It will not help with the spitting up but it helps with the erroisin (sp) that can occur with the spitting up all the time. My dd was diagnosed with a sever case of GERD. her pedi had her have an upper GI done, she had to drink this white stuff not alot only about 2oz and they took digitial xrays. she spit up right while it was happening, the tech was suprised by how much came up. Be persistant, you know what is going on. Dont let your doc dictate your childs care.
If he has reflux, they may want to consider meds. We had both my kids on a variety of meds at that age. Kids do spit up a lot, and the position he is in when you feed him helps a lot (up right with not a lot of pressure on his tummy), trying to keep him up right afterwards helps too. It gets worse when they start moving around. When my son had tummy time and was crawling, it would be worse because of the pressure on his belly. I think you should make an apt to see the pediatrician and have him examined.
Neither of my children had reflux, but both were huge spitters. Not only in the amount they spit, but in the fact that they could truly spit up almost until their next feeding time! Of course, I mentioned it to the pediatrician (more than once!), but, based on other info, it was nothing to worry about in our case. They were just big spitters. Sometimes it's normal.
I think doctors are concerned about extreme amounts of spit-up (I know you've already received some advice on determining that) as well as signs of discomfort, etc. Also, if a baby is not growing, that's a problem. If you're baby is spitting up a lot AND has one or more of these problems (or some other related problem), then by all means address it. If he's just a "happy spitter" it could just be normal for him.
Hope everything turns out okay.
This is going to sound crazy, but it worked for us. We took our DS who is now 2 months to the chiropractor and had him adjusted. Before we went, he would spit up enough to drench you and him. After going twice he now spits up a "normal" baby amount.
Our grandson did that, too. We changed him from Carnation Good Start to Enfamil. Never spit up again.
Both of my kids were spitters, my daughter more so. You say he's spitting up half his bottle - are you sure that's really the case? Try this - pour 1 oz of milk (regular milk) into a bottle, and dump it on the table. It looks like a lot more than an ounce. If you son is really spitting up much more than that, insist that he be seen by the pediatrican. Otherwise, if he's a happy spitter, don't worry about it, and invest in a lot of burp cloths. I actually just used the receiving blankets, because burp cloths weren't big enough!
