I have a 5 week old and would love to get a sling. I bought the Hot Sling brand but they did not have a size big enough for my chest(DD to E while brestfeeding) I have also looked at the Peanut Shell brand. I would love to hear what your experiences are with any slings.

What can I do next?

Hi H.,

I am a new mom to a 5 month old little girl and still use my sling. I am a DD to E or more as well. I went to Baby Grand in St. Paul and the workers there know all about the different types of slings and have them all for you to try in the store. If you can go, bring your baby so you can try him in it. I ended up purchasing a New Native Sling (similar to a Hotsling but better sizing). It is a one piece sling (size M if you can believe that) but because I was able to try it at the store, I could get the right size right off the bat. I actually went there looking for a peanut shell but the sizing did not work for me. I had even considered trying them on at Baby Grand and then doing a search on-line for the best price.

Now that my daughter is 5 months old, she rides on my hip in the sling. She loves and I think it is great too. I hope you find one that works. Get one soon, you won't regret it!

I would try Peapods in St.Paul on St.Clair and Snelling. They have a brand called Kangroo Korner. It is an awesome brand and the fabric stretches especially if you get the fleece. You are probably thinking won't fleece be to hot. My friend who had her baby in July used her fleece Kangroo Korner all summer. The best part about going to Peapods is that they are very helpful and will have you try on the sling and put your baby in it to make sure it is a good fit. Hope this helps.

Hey H.:) I had a costomer in last week who had a Maya wrap. She raved about it. The bonus is you can adjust it as he gets bigger. Mayawrap.com

I have a hotsling, too, which is great when your breastfeeding days are over, but doesn't work well during.

So, I bought a kangaroo korner sling, http://www.kangarookorner.com/, made in woodbury, mn. I have used this sling while providing childcare, and really liked it. That's why I bought my own. It has snaps to adjust to your size, and it's really roomy and cozy. THe only downside is that the best ones are in fleece, which isn't that great in the summer. They have them at Peapods in St. Paul, if you want to go try one on.

Congrats on the new baby!!!!

H.,
There's a group called NINO (nine in nine out) I believe they have a website and a twin cities group, but they are all about slings and likely would have lots of suggestions for you. Personally, I loved the wrap type slings and the pouch slings. There's a good selection at Peapods in St. Paul that you can try out.

Hi H.,

I used a Moby wrap, which is a bit different from a pocket-style sling, but accomplishes the same result. They can be intimidating at first, because there's so much fabric, but once you get the hang of it - and it doesn't take long - it's great. It is completely adjustable, so anyone can wear it (like, say, your husband!) and fits the baby no matter what size. My best friend who happens to be very large chested used one, and never had any problems. It also offers really good back support because it distributes baby's weight evenly across both shoulders and the lower back - which is something you won't get with a sling. If your baby is on the larger size, they recommend getting the Moby-D style, which has a non-stretch panel that offers better baby support for big kids. I got mine at Peapods, but they sell them all over the place, and online. Good luck with your baby-wearing!!
