Infant Baby Sling - Dallas, TX

My niece just had a baby. Money is extremely tight for her. She would like one of those slings you wear and place the baby in it so that your hands are free. Is there a place to buy one of those at a reasonable price or even second hand? She seems to think they are very expensive.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Everyone was so nice and offered great information in regard to the Baby Sling. Amanda was extremely kind to wash her baby sling and put it in the mail to my niece! Thank you all, and special thanks to Amanda for her giving heart!

I have one that I would gladly mail her if she is interested. My baby didn't like it and would cry everytime I tried to put her in it.

I would suggest buying one second hand (whether it be e-bay, craigslist, or a second hand retail store). I would encourage her to buy an expensive model that is used (and thus cheaper) than a new cheap one from Target (or another place). Quality really does matter with this kind of product . . . if she buys a cheap one, she will probably only use it a couple times and then complain of it making hurt back hurt. I have heard great things about the ergo brand (http://www.ergobabycarrier.com/). If she chooses a more traditional sling, encourage her to seek advice from someone who has successfully used one . . . they can be tricky to get used to at first, but itcan become second nature. Baby wearing is a wonderful way to build early healthy attachment . . . I would encourage you to support her efforts 100% !!!

Ebay is where I got mine. Check sizes. I realized I got one too small. ( I had a ten pound baby..lol) I only paid thirteen dollars.

I would check out the one at Target, like the other poster suggested.

Also, my friend own www.modestmums.com which has a bunch of different products made by moms for babies. Not sure if there's anything on there, but her prices are very good.

And don't forget to check out local shops like "2nd Time Around" and other recycled baby thing stores.

Kid to kid or once upon a child sell second hand kid stuff. I have always seen several slings at kid to kid. I think they have a web site so you can find a location near you. Also, try looking on craigslist. She might find a really great bargain on there.

Good Luck!!!
