Baby Skipping Second Feeding in a Row Today

My almost 7 mo old is happy, no fever, and sleeping the normal amount. She refused her 9:30 breast feeding. No big deal, just feed again near lunch time. Well its lunch time and still no breast. Think I might try a little Tylenol (teething maybe?) and go straight to oatmeal. Any better ideas?

What can I do next?

When you say refused, how did she act? When was her last feeding and for how long? It is unusual for a 7 mo. old to wean, but babies do sometimes do nursing strikes. Have you tried nursing in a quiet room or when she's tired?

Could also be that the belly isn't feeling too great... No symptoms yet, but it could be just starting... Keep offering it to her often and pump some milk and mix it with oatmeal to try... If she is starting up something, then BM will help her thru it faster. :-) Keep an eye on how long its been since she hasn't taken any fluids. Babys dehyrate faster than adults... I would call my DR and ask how long you should let her go before seeking medical (IV fluids) assistance. I think its usually about 12- 24 hours...

My DD usually skips meals when she's teething. Today she ate less than 1/2 her usual breakfast, about 1/2 her lunch, and finally took a full dinner. (she didn't nurse much either) I don't usually worry unless she does it more than one or two days.

My daughter was never a consistant nurser sometimes 3 hours between sometimes 6. It drove me crazy and I always worried but her growth was consistent and I weighed her at my local Breastfeeding Support meeting before and after a feeding and found in 8 minutes she had gotten 9 oz. so I stopped worring so much about each feeding, it's cumulative over the course of a full day. If you think about it you feel less hungry some days than others and she probably just doesn't feel hungry. It could be teething but be careful to medicate if she isn't fussy it isn't good for her liver. Is she eating other solids and just avoiding the breast? Did you eat something potent or strong flavored last night?? It could be a different taste than she is used to. If it's teething give her a frozen bagel to gnaw of then try to feed while her gums are cold and that should help if the avoidance is pain related. Hope this is helpful. On a side note, take a picture or video of her nursing from over your shoulder so in the years to come you will always have that snap shot of this sweet time. It goes so fast and I wish I had my husband take that picture for me, it's hard to remember.
