The best I've seen, bay far, are the Signing Time videos. They are fun to watch and kids pick up on the signs REALLY fast!
Looking for recommendations for book and/or DVD programs for baby sign. What did you like? Where did you purchase? Any you've tried that you did not care for? Thanks so much!

My daughter is 14 months and signs a few words (more, all done, I love you, dog, ball, etc.) She can say some of the words too, but knowing more and all done have been priceless. Of course my favorite is I love you. You could pick up a book of simple signs and start there. A lot of babies don't get very far before they start talking, so you may want to just start off simple. My daughter had no interest in the DVD we checked out from the library, but I found it interesting. Good luck!
We used baby sign. We used what we needed, however when he started talking HE didnt want to use the signs anymore even though he was encouraged, which was a shame.
For signing, you only get back the work you are prepared to put in :)
I didn't use any video resourses but loved the book "Baby Signs" by Linda Acredolo. I got a lot of the "why" and not just the "how" and that's something that helps me learn better.
HATED Baby Sign and Sign with your Baby. Too geared toward the parents, and it's not fun to watch over and over.
www.signingtime.com without a doubt. When I first found them, they only had 3 videos. Now they have 13 in the regular series, a series geared toward babies (which I haven't actually seen because my kids were too old), and flashcards and lots of heart. And they have never been bought out by anyone else. They are still privately owned.
Seriously, everyone should check them out!
As other posters have said...SIGNING TIME all the way! I do home childcare and have been using these with my childcare groups for years....I have learned right alonside the children and while some are more quick to learn and enjoy it more than others..we know alot of signs and use them all the time...about 100-120 words on last count that we use regularly. It is part of our daily activities.
PBS I believe runs it now too...it used to be on early on a Saturday morning, but if you have a DVR, record some and see what they are all about. Repetition is obviously key...using the signs in your everyday life...before you know it, you will be using them and so will your child. Bridge the gap with visual and verbal learning...how can you go wrong!
Good Luck!!!
I recommend the Signing Time series. You can order them online at www.signingtime.com. The Hennepin County library has them available to borrow. I'd start with the Baby Signing Time and move on from there.
Hi J.- We didn't get really far into signing with our daughter but she did learn about 30 signs. Some we taught her and the rest she learned from Baby Einstein - My First Signs. She really liked it will still watch it now and she's 2.5 years old. A couple other Baby Einstein DVDs have signing in them too. I think Baby's Favorite Places and Baby Wordsworth. Not positive but I know there are more than just the signing one. Good luck!

Let me start off by saying kudos to you for wanting to teach your child sign language. My daughter will be two this January and she knows over 300 signs! I can’t speak highly enough of the benefits of teaching babies and toddlers sign language. That being said, start with Baby Signing Time volumes one and two from 'Signing Time'. Just this month they came out with Baby Signing Time volumes three and four. Haven't seen them yet but they have to be good since everything of theirs is! My daughter for a long time only preferred to watch the 'Baby' Signing Times DVDs as opposed to the regular Signing Time so I would suggest definitely starting with that.
