Baby Shaking

My 10 week old little boys foot will sometimes shake when he stretches out or you try to stand him on your legs for example. If you grab his foot the shaking will stop. I noticed the other day his mouth did the shaking when he yawned. The doctor said it was his nervous system, however i think it is getting worse instead of better. Should i be too concerned or will this pass? It's making me really nervous. It does not seem to bother him when the shaking takes place.

What can I do next?

my nephew had a twitch which never got better. So when he was about 11 months my sister took him in for all sorts of testing and it ended up being a nerve condition which he would grow out of. He is now 4 and doesn't have it.
But you could go in for a second opinion.

I have heard of this before and don't think it's that uncommon. I believe it's his little nervous system developing and just learning how to work. But it is your baby and if you're concerned if it continues for much longer, you can ask one of the other docs in the practice. I've heard people say that it stopped in their baby around 3 mos old.

I was going to answer just as Susan did. There is no harm in taking him to see a Pediatric Neurologist. My daughter's initial Pediatrician missed her and myself having Thrush TWICE and it resulted in her quitting nursing and me exclusively pumping for 9 months, and then the Pediatrician recommended I give her some Karo Syrup in her bottle of breastmilk when I thought she was constipated. I mixed it up, looked at it, and said NO WAY I'm giving that to my baby! I did some research and the AAP had recommended NO Karo Syrup for kids until they were 5 or something because it can contain Botulin spores!! Needless to say we switched docs after that. I was furious! My Point: Sometimes doctors just brush your concerns off wantonly. Sometimes they are just plain ignorant. Getting another opinion (or two) can't hurt anything!!

I don't have any experience on this subject, but I am a firm believer in a mother's instinct. If it concerns you, keep asking until you find someone who gives you an answer that calms your concerns. In this case, if your insurance covers it, I would definitely talk to a pediatric neurologist or some other specialist.

My son who was born premature had an under-developed nervous system that resulted in some sensory issues and occupational therapy helped him. I would guess there is something like that for your son even if this is not a big issue.

Baby shaking is a criminal offense. Might want to change your post title.

You're baby trembling while stretching, is yes, just his nervous system developing. If he acts otherwise, like you can't disrupt the shaking or he appears a little zoned out during the trembling episodes, then yes, you have a problem.

If it helps to alleviate your concerns, then keep a log of frequency, where, when of when these tremblings occur. You could even video tape it to show at your next peds visit.

Both leg and lip trembling are very normal as they stretch and open.

I have a 6 week old whom also does the same thing. Especially during a diaper change. It's like his little fanny can't handle those awful wipes and his leg twitches/trembles. On occasion his mouth will do it during a yawn, but he sure does have the shaky leg. I am not alarmed because I remember all 3 of my other ones doing it and it went away. I have read up on it and it's like what some have posted here, an immature nervous system. Like the other gal said, if he is zoned out and unresponsive then you may have a problem.

my DS used to do this All the time ! I freaked out - naturally - and went to the Dr's. and she told me the same thing yours did, nervous system. It did pass!! But for more peace of mind, make an appointment and go tell them your concerns, you believe its getting worse. xoxox
