I have a bunch of beautiful baby quilts and knit blankets. I only need one, so what do I do with them all?

Do you keep them, donate them, give them away?

My mom kept my baby quilt and I have no desire to have it. I hate to store these things for years for kids that want have a use for them.

What can I do next?

I would suggest finding some organization that works with teen mothers... donate them there..... Many times the teen mothers don't get such beautiful items.

However... I have all of the major baby quilts that I was given for my kids... and now use them with my grandkids..... some were made by people that have since passed, so I cherish the stories that went with them. At some point, they will be passed on to those kids, if possible.

I also have some handmade quilts made by my husband's grandparents.... they are also cherished. I wish I knew the stories behind them!

Homemade ones I have kept unless the person who made it is not someone "special" in our lives (for example a former co-worker of my husband's who no longer works there and hasn't kept in touch with us). I have a crochet one that my grandma made before she died. My aunt sent it to me when our daughter was born. It is ugly and really not a baby blanket, but I have kept it because my grandma made it for a future great-grandbaby that she never got to hold. The others I will keep until my kids have kids. Grandma's always need blankets for when the grandkids visit! My daughter thinks that anything that was mine when I was a little girl is super cool. She even took a sweater I wore as a baby for an "artifact" assignment at school. I've kept some of the not so special ones because my kids like to use them for building forts and playing their games. Throw one in the car for impromptu picnics in the summer.

Others I have donated or sold at garage sales. I had a daycare owner buy a ton of receiving blankets and other blankets at my last garage sale. If they are in really nice shape, donate them to a women's shelter, homeless shelter, or an organization that helps teen moms. Many churches collect quilts to take on mission trips. If they aren't in good shape look for a quilters' group. They will often recycle old quilts and use pieces in new quilts that they are making. If they are in really bad shape donate them to an animal shelter. They use old blankets in cages.

Keep the ones with sentimental value, (I personally was thrilled when my grandma gave me my baby blanket when I gave birth to my daughter. I have vague, fond memories of it and I love that my daughter gets to enjoy it too.)

Other than that, donate to a women's shelter. Or, if the ones in your area don't need them (highly doubtful, places like that almost always need baby stuff.) and you really don't care what happens to them (or if you have any that are stained or showing some wear...) you can donate them to an animal shelter. The kennels are usually cement, so get always appreciate having something soft to give the animals to lay on.

I would save any with sentimental value. ... handmade or well loved. Can your girls use a couple for their dolls? Otherwise, donate or sell. :)

Are there any relatives that would like them or could use them?

If not donate them. They will be greatly appreciated by families that cannot afford blankets for their babies or children.

I would keep them and trun them into one big quilt for thier weddings.

My kids have 3-4 quilts that my mom has made them. We use still, My kids are 2 &5. They get one each christmas, one when they were born. Then this year when My daugther gets a twin bed (she is my 2 year old) my mom will make her one that is the twin size.. she gets the best fabric, and designs are those that when she is 15 she will not be embarrased to have on her bed. ( she did the same with my son, designs so he will use this for the rest of his life..)

If, you chose not to keep them, then I would donate to a batterd womens shelter or something like that.

Keep them! I gave away too many and I regret it. They can be used as blankets for baby dolls and the kids may use them when they get older as a throw on their bed.
