both of my boys were transverse and both turned in time, however, I have heard of babys turning during labor in the right place so if your MD is not worried then try to relax. I know how you feel my daughter is breech and I am hoping she turns too, but you can only do so much.

Good luck.

My son was born on 1/25/08. I had a version done 2 weeks prior to his birth - he was breech. The version was performed in the OR in case the need for a C-Section arose. I was given a spinal. I did NOT feel the version. With a spinal (anesthesia), the success rate is over 80%. If the version doesn't work, you will need a C-Section regardless. Why not give the version a shot and try to diminish your probability of surgery (c-section)? My doctor recommended it. I also spoke with our pediatrician who recommended it. Good luck! It sounds scarier than it is. After the spinal kicked in, the actual version took about 30 seconds (and my husband held my hand during it).

You can possibly request an external cephalic version, where the doctor can attempt to rotate the baby to vertex (head down) from the outside of your abdomen. Some women are not eligible.

If he/she doesn't do it and there are no contraindications, you can go to an acupuncturist/herbalist that can perform moxibustion. Moxibustion is the burning of an herb, mugwort by a specific toe on one or both of your feet that has been proven to work to aid in your baby turning head down.

Some people play music above your pubic bone, which can attract the baby down. There are also some exercises that you can probably find on the internet to aid the baby in descending head down.

If none of those work and the baby doesn't turn on its own, then you will have to have a C/S, since the baby is not going to be able to descend into the pelvis in that position. If you do need a C/S, it will likely be scheduled and done in a routine fashion.

Good Luck!

Remember, the goal is a healthy Mom and Baby by the safest route possible!

It is very unusual to have your baby (singleton) be transverse by the time you give birth. My son was complete breech (full term, singleton) when I went into labor at 39 weeks. I was scheduled for a c-section that day, quite a coincidence. I was a candidate for external version but I decided against it since there are risks and I thought if the baby wants to be in that position, then let him be. I tried the excersizes and the cold compresses. They didn't work for me. Honestly, I would just relax and let your baby get into whatever position he or she feels comfortable with. If its head down, great, you will have a regular birth. If he or she stays or goes into breech, you will have a c-section. I know, the recovery is hard, but really, its about the baby and what is best for him. I am assuming its a boy. They are always troublemakers! lol

My MD told me that they would not even risk trying to deliver a breech baby. So I googled some things to try. There are some simple positions you can sit/lay to see if the baby will turn on its own. Also, there are some chiropractors trained in some techniques as well. However, you would need to start ASAP as the bigger they get, the less fliud, the harder it is to for it to turn. My son was transverse and at my 37 week check he was head down. He ended up being 10 days early, so there wasn't much time to do anything if he wasn't. I never even felt him flip! I was trying to avoid a c-section but did not want the md's to do the version thing, my cousin had it, said it was painful and then the baby flipped right back into the breech position. The best thing (and hardest) is to just let your body relax and let it do it's thing. The more tense you are about it, the less likely it will fix itself on its own. Whatever happens, you are going to have a beautiful child and you won't even care in 6 months how it got here.
