I have an 8 1/2 month old little girl. Im having problems with her sleeping through the night. She is breastfed and absolutely will not take a bottle. She goes to bed about 10 pm but wakes about every hour and a half. Sometimes she wants to eat, and other times nothing makes her happy. She cries for about 5 min then goes back to sleep most times. Other times she gets up, maybe roll around then lays back down and goes to sleep on her own. And she does take a soothie pacifier. I have tried tylenol because she is teething now. I have also tried ibuprofen. I have given her baby cereal before bed, she does take baths about 8 pm. So i am at a loss of what else to try. And what could be causing her to get up so often. She has been like this for about 2 months now. Anyone with any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...thank you..

What can I do next?

Ok here's a couple of things to think about. Have you tried several different types of nipples? My son would only take one kind when I did both. Is she eating enough during the day?
Where does the baby sleep and how long do you let her fuss before you pick her up? Sometimes babies get pretty dependent on being held and have a difficult time learning to comfort themselves. Since you said it only last for five minutes at a time, she may not technically be "awake", but when you go in and pick her up, your actions really wake her up.
I know it sounds hard, but give this a try if you haven't already. Good luck

My daughter was around that age also when her sleep regressed. She was so restless. She is now 1 and is doing better much better, although still waking up twice a night which I will take anyday over the constant waking.

Sorry, I have no advice just that it does get better...eventually.

Have you had her checked out by the doctor? My daughter did the same thing and the doctor told me she was fine. I took her to a different doctor when my doc was on vacation. The pediatrician said she couldn't see her ear drum clearly it was loaded with wax. She pulled out a plug of was the size of my pinky finger and behind it was a very bad ear infection. My daughter was about 7 months old an was a very pleasant baby until you went to put her down for nap or bed. I would be up in tears most nights at my wits end. I took her to a specialist and she ended up with tubes on her first birthday because her ears just kept re-infecting. Best thing I ever did, verses constantly medicating her. Have her checked out. Is she eating three meals a day now? So you can rule out hunger. At her age she is probably ready for the three meals with veggies, meats, and fruits along with the cereal throughout the day. Some children want something more then breast and bottle once solids are introduced. If it is just habit and you know she isn't hungry, or sickness, then try not to pick her up just rub her back, pat her behind, whatever you need to do to get her back without feeding her or picking her up. If it is just habit she will eventually realize no need to wake and start sleeping. Also, I prefer Motrin for pain verses Tylenol. It works so much better for me. Good luck!!

Is she getting enough sleep and milk/food during the day? Often times this is the first thing to look at when it comes to sleep problems at night. Also, consider a much earlier bedtime. Most kids this age go to bed between 7:30-8. Work to get a bedtime routine down that she can anticipate. Bath, stories, pajamas etc. If she wakes during the night go in to give her paci or calm her briefly (no talking or lights on) and then lay her back down. The book The Baby Whisperer was a great help for us with sleep training. It's really worth it. Hang in there, with some commitment it will get better.
