Just curious - if you used a baby monitor, when did you discontinue using it? Any particular reason why you chose that time? (I'm not really looking for product recommendations, just when you stopped using one and why)

What can I do next?

My daughter just turned three and we still use one downstairs. That is only because her room is in the back of the house upstairs and when we are downstairs watching TV at night we are not able to hear her if she happens to wake up.

We stopped using ours at 6 months, but we live in a really small condo (his room is right next to ours) and we can hear him in his room without the monitor. He rustles around and turns over a lot and talks to himself and we couldn't get any sleep! We can hear him if he "talks" loudly or cries so we quit using the monitor.

We used an Angel Heart Monitor on both of our children until they were out of the crib and in big kid beds. This was about 2years for our daughter and a little over 2 years for our son. We used a "typical" montior in addition to the angle heart with our daughter, but we live in a single story ranch and found that we did not need both on a daily basis. Occassionaly we used both when we were outside during nap time.

We stopped using one for our oldest when she was 2 1/2 years, and the only reason we used it that long is because we couldn't hear her in her room in the morning and she wouldn't get out of bed until we came in to get her (she was in a big bed, just waited for us) and she couldn't work doorknobs yet. Once she started being able to do doors, and we moved her to a closer room, there was no need for the monitor.
