Hi T.-
We use a handheld monitor system made by Summer. They sell it at Target for around $190 and we just love it. We recently had our second child and purchased another so that we can keep tabs on both our tots.
I am going to be looking to purchase a new baby monitor in the near future, but i am looking for one with a camera so I can keep an eye on our curious son. Any suggestions? Our bedroom is on the opposite side of the house as our sons and soon he will be moving downstairs to a new bedroom so I need one with good reception.
We are trying to get pregnant with number 2 and if that happens (we have started fertility medicine) we will be moving my son to a new room so the baby can have the nursery.
for my birthday I had asked for the BeBeSounds Portable Color Video & Sound Monitor w/2 Cameras my husband, but my husband bought me BeBeSounds Flat Panel Color Video & Sound Monitor. It isn't portable, which is the feature I liked about the 2 camera one, but the screen is bigger, so I can see more. So its a toss up. I just got it yesturday so I will give it some time and see if I can live with it, unfortunatelly I cannot get rid of my old baby monitor (cause that one is portable) so I will have to call fisher price and order new batteries for them. Thanks for everyones advice.

I can't suggest a great one, but I can say we have one made by Summer. It will make noises and have interference all the time. It was keeping us up all night, so we finally put it away and got out the one w/o the video. Sometimes we will use the monitor, but keep the sound off because I truly think it will drive me crazy! I wonder if we got a defective one, but I highly suggest NOT buying one made by Summer.
We also have the Summer camera monitor and it works wonderful! I noticed 1 comment about reception with this brand. That's tough to predict and doesn't necessarily have much to do with the brand of monitor you choose. Could have to do with other monitors in the neighborhood or other environmental factors like that.
Just recently replaced our old one that died. I did a ton of research on reception, etc. and ended up buying the BébéSounds Portable Color Video and Sound Monitor/w 2 Cameras. I got it on Amazon because I could not find a local MN store that had the two camera setup. We have 2 boys (3.5 years & 7 mos. old) in 2 separate rooms and it is a very clear screen, you can adjust the lighting on the camera from the base, we get excellent reception (and that is what the majority of the reviews said on it, we have no issues with a wireless router or cordless phones in the house, and it allows you to either leave the screen on one room, the other room, or automatically scan back and forth. It works in the night and can be set on something or attached to a wall. It uses an AC power cord for the cameras and the base or the base can use rechargeable batteries only. We are very happy with the purchase.
Good luck.

We have a Summer handheld video monitor and LOVE it. It was completely worth the extra money - saved so many trips across the house in the middle of the night to see what was going on and risk waking my little one up. Good luck! http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2265802
I don't have a suggestion for a monitor like that. When we start trying to conceive and the second one comes along we plan on having my son and the new child sharing a room until the second goes to a twin bed at 2 - 2 1/2. Then my son will be like 6 1/2 when we put him in the downstairs bedroom. Because I just don't feel comfortable putting a four year old down in the basement all by himself. Well then I suppose you're saying well isn't the new baby going to wake my son up. I plan on having the new child in a bassinet in our room until he/she starts sleeping through the night. (My son started sleeping through the night at 7 1/2 weeks) I know, I know not every kid starts sleeping through the night then. If I have to go a little bit longer than that then so be it. Good luck with this and trying to conceive!
Hi T.,
We love our Summer video/camera monitor system. It comes with the camera and one monitor. It is all we needed. My husband takes it out to the garage when he is working on something. The monitor has sound too if you need it, we typically do not use the sound. We love being able to watch him! It was the best investment!! Good luck! ~L.
We will be setting up a web cam to stream over our computers. If your DH is tech savvy, this is an option.
I have seen many monitors at Target. Although I can't specifically recommend one.
