Baby Monitor and Diaper Disposal?

Any of you moms out there real happy with your baby monitor? We have one that has a sensor pad you put under the mattress, although we've just used the audio on it. It always picks up a lot of static. Don't think it did that at first, but we've now had it over two yrs. The other one we have has a camera, so you can see your baby at night. I like the camera, but again it picks up static. Anyone had one for a while that doesn't do this?

Also, anyone happy with their diaper disposal system? Diaper genie, dekor, etc? The one we have now basically just opens and closes, but it was cheap. We keep it in the garage because it smells so bad.

Thanks so much for all your help! Only 6 more weeks until our second child is born. Yay!!

What can I do next?

Diaper Dekor is the best. We had the diaper genie (I think it was called II). It broke as soon as it got full. The spring broke and door wouldn't close. Took it back and got the diaper dekor. Really like it. You can also use regular trash bags if you desire. We do. It can also be used as a trash can later if you would like.

We use the video/audio monitor by Summer and love it! I had a different one with my daughter that had bad static, but this one doesn't at all for my son.

For a diaper pail, we use the Diaper Dekor and have had it for three and half years. I used it with my daughter and now my son. I change it about once a week and it doesn't smell until about that time. It's worked great for us!

We have the Summer handheld video monitor and I LOVE it. Not much static - and it's great to be able to push a button and see what our little guy is doing - I highly recommend it!

L. ... Can't say much about the baby monitor, but I do own a diaper service, which can help with your disposable system problem. Basically, our diaper service delivers cloth diapers to your home every week and we pickup the soiled diapers and clean them for you. No mess no fuss. We have a diaper pail, which has a flip-top lid that along with our delivery bag helps to contain the smell. As a corollary some of our customers put baking soda in their diaper pail, which cuts the smell tremendously.

Not sure about using a diaper service? Please visit http://www.bluebonnetdiaperservice.com to read about us and what we do.

CONGRATS on baby #2's (near) arrival! How exciting!!

I LOVE the Diaper Champ. It uses regular plastic bags (life the ones you get from a Supermarket when you check out) so you don't have to pay extra money or go out of your way to get refills. I actually stopped using it though & just flush the "solids" down the toilet & toss the dirty diaper in the trash which we tae out every night (pretty much). That way there is NO smell anywhere.

As for a monitor, we opted for a digital monitor because of interference. It's a Graco, no frills one & I love it. I don't see her but I didn't want to, it felt a little "Big Brother-ish" to me. I'm not sure who else makes digital monitors but that woul dbe my solution for static/interference.

Hope this helps &
Good luck!

I have Avent monitor with temperature and humidity--I really like it (but theres always a tiny bit of static)

I also have Tomme Tippee diaper thing and even though its supposed to be great, it STINKS when you open it! I would just use plastic grocery store bags next time! Also one the baby gets to like 5 months old the diaper "genie" needs to be changed way too often!

Congrats :)

I had the Diaper Champ. You can get it at Burlington Baby Depot. I like it because you can use your own regular trash bags. The Diaper Genie is probably the very best at containing the smell, but you have to buy the refills. This works fine if you are a working mom because you don't go through the refills quite so quickly. But if you are a SAHM then the refills run out quickly! You could use the diaper genie for really smelly poopy diapers, and just throw the pee diapers in the trash can since they don't smell so much.

HOpe that helps somewhat!

We had a diaper genie with our first DS, and I never liked it. We're having baby #2 next week, and I decided to try the Diaper Champ. I love it! It's easy to use and it can take regular trash bags, so you don't have to buy the expensive refills.

I highly recommend the Sony Baby Call 900 MHz. We got it when our other one decided to have loud static all night after only about 2 months and have loved it for the past 2 years. You can turn it to where you don't hear anything unless the baby makes a noise and then it comes on automatically...it's great!!! We even got one for our 2nd daughter 6 months ago and they both work great!

For diaper pails...I have a Graco hands-free, but the price has doubled in the past few months so I think $100 is too expensive. The other one we have is the Diaper Champ...I got it at a Just Between Friends sale for $10 and it's the best! Doesn't hold much, but you can use your own garbage bags and it keeps the smell out.

The best place to look for info. on baby stuff is in the book...Baby Bargains by Denise & Alan Fields. I have used products that they recommend and they are right...they know the best buys!!!

Good luck!

First of all on the monitor, try keeping the parent monitor up higher, it could be picking up the static that is closer to the floor. Any monitor you get will do this. Move it around, we have the Angel care monitor, but since we have other monitors in houses around us on the same frequency we have to move our around. We have the baby part up higher in the room and ours is on the night stand. As for the diaper desposal system...I have 3 kids, was bought the diaper genie (which I never wanted) but the person who bought it took it out of the box, set it up and threw the box away. What we have always done is just throw the diapers in the trash. They go out 2 times a week with our regular garbage. We have a little trash can by the changing station. A small one that would go in a bathroom. I hope this helps. Also on the monitor, it is hard to have 2 in the same house, one will over;power the other. Try unplugging the video monitor and see if the static goes away.

The diaper champ is very easy and you can use any garbage bag rather then having to buy special ones like you do with the diaper genie. Ours does not smell and we are very pleased with it.

Highly recommend the Diaper DEKOR. Easy to use and holds tons. As for the "smells"...they all smell if you put dirty diapers in them and leave them even more than day. I'd suggest only putting wet diapers in any diaper diposal system and taking the dirty diapers out after each change. We use our old grocery bags to wrap them in and then straight out to the trash.

We used the video/audio monitor by Summer. It was kinda expensive (~$120), but is soooo worth it! Never had any issues w/static or anything. My son is 18months and we still use it to this day. My husband (tech gadget freak) said once he was older, he was going to hook it up as a security camera in our house, lol! Really, it's been great. As for the diapers, we purchased a small cheap one at Babies R Us and when it's not open, no smells at all! But if there's a loaded on in there, watch out! Sorry I can't be more help with that one, but I don't think there are many good ones out there (jmo). HTH!

I love our baby monitor. It's a video monitor by Summer. It has a fabulous screen, looks great day and night. Ours also can with a separate parent unit that is handy for if we're out gardening, etc. when our little chap is napping. We get the occasional static if the monitor is close to the microwave when it's in use, but that's about it.

We have the Diaper Genie 2, maybe called Elite or something like that. It's the one with the smaller blue refills. Very easy to use with one hand. Very stinky diaper smells stay within the Genie. These things are a must for every parent of diaper wearing little one.

Hope that helps. All the best.

Love our monitor we bought for baby number 2. Sony 900 MHz Baby Call, it's just audio no video. It has channel options and we've set it once since we opened them and haven't had to change them since - about 4 months now. It has an option to switch so you only hear crying and loud noises so you can better tune out the snorting etc at night if you want to. I've not really used the option but have tested it and it seems to work well.
As far as diaper pails good luck!

I also have the Diaper Genie II Elite and love it. I used to have the original diaper genie years ago with my first son, and this diaper genie II definitely is much better! It really keeps the stink away.

I've had lots of diaper pails because I have 3 kids, and the best one I've used is the diaper genie II elite. It has a step to open hands free and there is no crazy twisting or turning like with other ones I've tried. On the monitor, I've had a safety 1st video monitor for 5 yrs, used with all 3 kids. We really only use the audio now but have no static problems with it at all. Good luck!

We had a Diaper Champ with our first child. I really liked it at first, but it really started to smell the longer we had it so we eventually took it out of her room. If my husband hasn't thrown it away, he put it in the attic and it needs to go in the trash. We have a seven-month old and we have not used anything to dispose of her diapers except for the good old kitchen trash can. We empty the trash often enough that it never has a chance to smell and we didn't have to buy a new diaper disposal "device".

My husband's cousin has a daughter the same age as our oldest daughter. Her daughter is her second child. She would put the babies diapers in a plastic sack throughout the day and put them in the trash each evening. She didn't find the need for a diaper disposer of any kind either.
