My 9 month ol blisters are getting better after starting antibiotic i.e augmentin but he has a watery stool .though he poops 3/4 times but this one spoiled his underwear as well..... gave him banana n might give yougurt , depending on his mood :) ......need more suggestions ~ LOVE
p.s ....he has cellulitis
yup hv fed him yougurt as well ...pedialyte is available here but thts only for replacement of essential salts of the body . it does not help n binding the stool ....he is pooping after every feed/solids .....i dont push him for solids now but he demands his formula so that is difficult to minimize ... and i have just seen a red rash on his left cheek as well ..........................thanku all for your feedback. actually he is getting better . aside from diarohea its working for him . his wounds/blisters are healing so at this moment i do not want to force him to change the medicine . yup he has very bad nappy rash which really irritates him when i touch him to give a wash but for that he has prescribed a cream ( i do not know the name as prescription is with my hubby )......petroleum jelly , various skin balms are also effective .....i cannot set him pamper free as he is a crawling baby , would b messing around and i have a fully carpeted apartment . so it wud be an invitation to germs :) ...

My son used to have the same reaction to Augmenten - it is a tough medicine. With every dose that he took, he also had yogurt. I would also put him on the BRAT diet - bananas, rice, apples, toast - and included oatmeal with it. If he only wants formula see about adding baby cereal to it for him.
He is 16 now, and still eats yogurt with every dose of antibiotic he takes...oh, and he hates yogurt, so to him it is like taking two medicines at once. LOL
Added - you are right about what Pedialyte does, but sometimes doctors will tell us not to feed formula because the body needs a break from the formula for a period of time, in order to rid of the diarrhea. That's why I mentioned the Pedialyte.
Yes, call the doctor, especially if he is now getting a rash.

Poor little guy. Yeah, Augmentin and Zithromax are both hard on our systems. (They bother adults' tummies too.)
The yogurt is a great idea, because antibiotics can also cause yeast infections.
Can you get Pedialyte in Pakistan? If not, call your doctor and ask about this. The doctor needs to know. He may tell you not to use formula.
I hope that the blisters go away soon. Don't stop using the Augmentin before it's done unless the doctor tells you to and gives you a new antibiotic. Finishing a full course is so important to prevent the blisters from coming back, and to prevent resistance to the medicine working.
Dawn
I would check w/ your Dr. I gave my baby probiotics during the course of antibiotics... I got it at the healthfood store and it's in powdered form so you can mix it w/ food or formula/milk etc. Best of luck!
Augmentin is an awesome antibotic but it tastes nasty AND can be rough on the stomach and bowels. Is he currently taking it with food? If not, try that because it can help. Since he's already having problems, try to cut back on milk products (which can also irriate the stomach and bowels). Give lots of liquids, fruits, and dry cereal (like Cheerios).
My daughter refuses to take it but the one time she took two doses in a row (as scheduled) she got sick so our doc doesn't give it any more.
I was given Augmentin in February for a severe spider bite in Florida and within a couple of hours was sick (explosive) from both ends, sorry. I wanted to just die. I called the doctor back and he had me discontinue it and it's now on my list to never take. It's a tough medication.
Can the physician offer anything else? I would call and ask.
Good luck!
Probiotics. My pediatrician recommended giving Culturelle after antibiotics. One adult capsule, broken open, and about 1/3 of the power from the capsule mixed into his food one time per day. Just don't give him the probiotic at the same time as the antibiotic. Space them apart by at least a few hours.
Jello water helps firm things up. Make Jello and add 2 times the amount of water. I didn't really want to give it to my son when he was thatt age, but caved after a few days and it worked. If he is on a bottle, takes a sippy I would put it in the sippy. Good luck. Poor little one.
P.S. This idea was given to me by mother in law who has been a nurse for close to 40 years.
