Baby Grabbing

My 7-month-old takes a shower with me every morning. She sits in her water filled tub, while mommy washes up, then I start washing her. It has worked very well over the last few months, since I returned to work. The problem is, now she is getting more "adventurous" and has been reaching for things. She keeps grabbing the shower curtain and putting it in her mouth! YUCK!!! I keep taking it away from her, but she just goes and grabs it again. I've tried telling the "No-No" "Caca" etc, but she's only 7 months, she doesn't understand. Does anyone know of a way to teach her not to touch it? I really don't think she can understand yet.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I didn't know that I could wash my shower curtain liner in the washing machine, I'm going to throw it in with a load tonight! Besides that, since I wrote this request Selena has started pulling herself up, and is able to sit from a laying position. So now she sits herself up in the infant tub, and tries to climb out! So I am thinking about purchasing a regular seat for her to sit in now. Thank you everyone for your responses!

Yes, redirection works for me as well. My son is 7.5 months and anytime he gets grabby or tries to roll over and crawl away during a diaper change, I give him something to hold that ISNT a toy. Toys bore him. He needs something he isnt supposed to have. He likes spatulas, spoons, kitchen utensils, calculator, etc... although I wouldnt recommend a calculator in the tub! Good Luck!

I've been doing the same thing with my 8 month old daughter and it can be really convenient. I have found the best way to get her to stop doing anything she shouldn't is to say "no" and then give her something else. She prefers things she doesn't usually get to play with so once she is bored with her bath toys I let her have some tupperware or a bottle of baby shampoo or a comb... whatever's in reach and safe! I've got to say tho, I wouldn't worry too much about her eating the curtain. Just give it a good cleaning and rinsing (you can even wash liners in the washer and dryer i learned recently) and let her chomp. If you let her she will probably get bored with it pretty quickly anyway! Good luck and congrats on her crawling!

Try giving her bath toys. She's really too young to understand not to eat the shower curtain. If you are keeping it clean the biggest thing to worry about is the soap scum and that's not really going to hurt her.

Maybe you could try squirting lemon juice on it, so she gets a sour taste when she does it, and then it will deter her from doing it again.

Besides putting a sliding door on your tub. I can only suggest cleaning the curtian before she gets in the tub with you. Also, give her toys to play with, something you will not trip on, while she is waiting for her bath. You could also try just holding her while the two of you take a shower. I did that with my three kids.
