Hey,
My husband and I are still deciding on what to name our little baby girl (due in June :). We were originally thinking of Alexis, but now I am starting to know SO many people with that name or naming their babies that. I want it to be something original and unique, not something every girl in her class will have. I love SO many different names, but my husband is so stubborn on it. But we have found one that he actually lies. Scarlett. Does anyone else out there like it, or do you think its old fashioned or weird? I think it is really pretty. (I love Gone with the Wind, lol). But our last name is Rains, so Scarlett Rains sounds pretty to me. He kinda wanted the first name to somewhat work well with Rains, his sisters name is Crystal Rains. Does anyone have any other suggestions? (I am not so hot on Purple, or Acid Rains, hehe) I really like Scarlett. Just seeing if anyone else out there likes it too. :)
Thanks!
D.
Thank you all so much!! I do think it is beautiful and classy as well. Glad to know there are some other people out there that think it as well, lol.

When naming a baby, always remember:
1) She's not little forever; will this be good when she's 60?
2) She may not be dainty... avoid "cute."
3) Don't give her one she must spell for others all the time.
4) She might marry Mr. Kowalski; will it still sound good?
Good luck! K.

I love it. Old fashioned names are in. But what would you pic for a middle name?
When i was looking for a name for my 1st baby. Someone told me to yell out the name over and over and see if I still like it. I ended up changing the name I picked.

Scarlett sounds cute. I like that name with the middle name Kaylyn, Kaelin, Kailin, or however you would like to spell it. When I was pregnant with my daughter I wrote out all the different name spellings to see what looked best on paper. Sounds kinda crazy now though.

I LOVE IT! Our last name is Gift and there aint that many Gifts out there (that isnt our family!). So we wanted something original and one of kind. I dont think it sounds like a porno name, I think Crystal dose before scarlett. Its beautiful. We decided on Chandler for our daughter, so her initals are C.R.Gift (see our gift, get it?. She is the only little kid I know named Chandler. Congrats on your new baby girl!

I so totally wanted to name our first child that if he'd been a girl. Daddy wasn't on board with it though so it wasn't gonna happen even if he hadn't been a he. Since your hubby likes it I say go for it. There is some truth in yelling out a name to "try it". We had decided on Cole for our 2nd son and I really liked it less and less the more I heard it so we named him Clint instead. When we did (finaly) get pregnant with our girl, our oldest was 8 yrs old and he suggested Katelyn Rose...We used Katelyn for her middle name-for several different reasons-as I had finally convinced him to let me name her after my grandmother, Zoe. I still like Scarlett though!
Congrats and best wishes!

I think it is so pretty! I agree with one other poster that said that if you and your husband like it then that is all that matters. It is so hard to tell people your name (especially when you are in love with it) only to not receive the reaction you were expecting or wanting.
I love the old fashioned girl names...to tell you the truth, if we were having a girl I don't think she would EVER have a name. My husband and I don't agree at all on any names!! Girl names are so much more difficult to pick in my opinion...
We are having our first in June also, a boy, and we are naming him Hagen. I didn't care for it at first, but have grown to love the name. I don't get the reaction when I tell people that I want, but you know...I don't care!
As long as you love it, that's all that matters.
Congratulations!!

So weird... our last name is R., too! Doesn't everyone want to put an "e" before the "s"?? We just had our first baby, also a girl, in October. We named her Emma Kate. I thought Emma R. flowed well. I think Scarlett is beautiful. It is an older name... so is Emma... but I think the whole vintage thing is so in right now... Scarlett sounds very elegant and southern-belle-ish. And Scarlett Johannsen is a very popular actress right now. It definitely does not sound like a stripper name... I don't know why anyone would say that to you! I really love the middle name Grace for a girl... Scarlett Grace... or Scarlett Elisabeth R. is pretty too. (Elisabeth with an "s" to soften it up.) What's funny... I have always loved the name Noah for a little boy, but then my husband and I got married, and there's no way I would name a poor baby Noah R.. :) hehe... Good Luck... Little baby girls are the best! Cherish it, too. My little Emma Kate is already almost 6 months old (on April 5th) and I can't believe she's already out of the tiny newborn stage. Every month you think it can't get any better... once they start sleeping and their little personalities come out and they start interacting with you more... and every month it just gets better and better. But sometimes I still miss my tiny little baby girl. When I was pregnant, I always wondered how women wanted to go through that again... I asked my mom if they just forget! :) But now I know, that is how... you see those sweet newborn tiny babies and immediately think, "Oh, I want a baby again!" haha... Now of course I don't really want that anytime soon. I love my Emma, but I can't imagine another new baby right now. Anyway, I just thought I'd give a little shout-out to a fellow R.. :) Good luck with your sweet baby girl! And, yes, Scarlett is a beautiful name!
-S. R. (Emma Kate's mommy)

I like the name Scarlett, but honestly with your last name, it sounds like a stripper name. JUST MY OPINION. :> I'm with you totally about original names. My husband wanted to name our daughter Abigail and I said OVER MY DEAD BODY. Don't get me wrong, I love the name, but I didn't want her to be 1 of 5 in her kindergarten class. As you can see, my name is original and I wanted the same for her. Unfortunately my name has grown in popularity over the years (Thanks Matrix) but when I was a kid I was the ONLY one.
We agreed on Piper for my DD and so far haven't met any her age (or even younger!). I believe there is a link on the social security website that will give you the top baby names for whatever year. You can get a lot of ideas from there and see what to avoid!! And if you want to use the name T., I will let you. :)

go with scarlett! Have a beatiful, simple middle name so if she ever wants to go by that she can. for instance, if she was in a conservative profession as some mentioned. i think it is pretty, unusual, and you both like it! but let's face it after your huband watches you push that baby into the world, you will be in a position to name her ANYTHING you want. i also think the actress scarlett will be around a long time and so takes away the possible xratedness :)with the name connotation. go for it!

Hi D.. Scarlett is a very pretty name but with Rains it almost sounds like an adult movie star name, don't you think? In high school it would be cute but when she gets out into the career world I can only imagine what men's minds would think.
Sienna Rains sounds good. Or maybe a name that isn't also an adjective.(ie:Hilary,Haley,Lola,Sarina,Meredith)
A strong name like Jordan,Mona,Demi,Carla,Erica, or even Jayden would be a nice compliment to the soft last name of Rains.
Here is an excerpt from an article that I found helpful when I was deciding on my baby name.
<<Imagine yourself as the director of admissions of a selective college or as the human relations manager of a business, hospital or law firm. Then ask yourself, all other things being equal, which name says, "Choose me; I'm going to be successful"? >>
I like Scarlett, and I like Hailey like another poster suggested.

I love it. I have worked for a Pedi DDS for 15 yrs and I have heard all the popular names a thousand times in fact this morning we had three Alexis in a row. I don't think we have ever had a Scarlett that I can remember. There are a couple of names I have heard lately that I really like they are Kelty and Anya. GOOD LUCK !!!!!

Scarlett is great. I actually plan on naming my girl Alexis. And yes I feel the same way as you wishing it wasn't quite so common, but it's the name I want. If you feel strongly about it go for it. I had the same issue with my son. I have had his name picked out since college, but when I got pregnant all of a sudden there were Nathan's around every corner, including 2 of my ex boyfriends kids! Still, I had my heart set so it wasn't changing. I think when you decide on a name, that is simply what it should be. Good luck.

I LOVE the name Scarlett! And it sounds beautiful with the last name Rains.
Reminds me of the beautiful actress Scarlett Johansen!
Definately not an old fashioned name.
Sometimes, you just gotta see what your baby looks like and the name will come right to you!
I know it's hard to wait though, you want the name for your baby before they are born. Especially since everyone's probably asking you "What are you gonna name her??"
We were able to name our daughter right away but when it came to my son, it took us until the day we left the hospital to come up with his name! : )
Girls seem to be easier since there's SO many beautiful names out there.
Scarletts a great one though!
Good luck to you with your new baby!

Scarlett is a pretty name and unique. We also worked hard to find something somewhat different. As a kid, I was routinely one of 3-4 Susan's in a classroom and I hated it. We named our daughter Erin (12 yrs ago) because we thought it sounded pretty at a baby level and still worked as an 80 yr old.
We also, did not tell anyone the names we were thinking about. Our daughter was due on or around Christmas so we decided early on if she was born on Christmas Eve or Christmas day her middle name would be Noelle. BUT.....she was later (27th) so we went with Melissa which is still a little different now.
Best wishes with your bundle of joy! I can't believe it has been 12 yrs for us already. It flies by..........enjoy it. Susan

I think Scarlett Rains sounds beautiful!! I am right there with you on not wanting my children to have "generic" names. My name was really unusual growing up and I used to despise it b/c everyone thought my name was Cathy and I couldn't pronounce my own name. My mom taught me to spell my name so people would realize I actually knew how to pronounce my own name. Anywho, I like it now that my name is not everywhere and I tried to pass that on with my children's names. Sorry to go on so much :) I definitely think Scarlett is a wonderful name for your little girl :) Congrats!

Another June baby... Our baby girl is due in June also (As I see you posted to my June baby post). I think the name is pretty. No one should tell you what to name your baby. Personally, we aren't telling anyone the name of our baby because I don't want their opinions. If you and your husband love the name, go for it.
Scarlett Johansen seems to have done well with it...
Congratulations on your new little one!

Hi, we have three boys, and are done having kids, but if I'd had a girl, I would have named her Olivia Fae, and it kinda rolls with Rains, I think. It has a romantic, old movie star quality, don't you think? Another name I like is Ayla, and I think it sounds good with Rains, as well. Hope this helps.
