Baby Eating More than I Pump

For the past week or so, my 6 mo old daughter has been eating about 18 or 19 ounces while I'm at work. I'm only pumping (at most) 13 ounces. Has anyone else had this problem? I have about a month of milk in the freezer, but I feel like this will get used up quickly if she continues at this rate. She is only eating breastmilk right now, nothing else.

Thanks!

Hi L.. good for you for pumping. some ideas:
1. drink lots of water.
2. make sure you are relaxed when you pump.
3. eat one hot meal a day.
4. try brewer's yeast as well (ask dr. of course). Some say even beer helps :) but I did not go that far.
5. is your bra too restraining?

Take care. Jilly

I would start pumping first thing in the morning when you are the most full. If that doesn't work, try some fenugreek. If I didn't pump in the morning, I don't think I would have enough during work either. Since I pump 7 days in the morning, I get enough to freeze too.

Pump first thing in the morning. If you can, get up in the middle of the night to pump again. (Then again, you need enough rest to get enough milk, so get to bed early also!) Pump the other breast when she is nursing as often as you can. Pump for a little longer after she finishes nursing. Be sure she completely empties one breast before moving to the other. I took fenugreek and drank Mother's Milk tea to support lactation. Eat oatmeal. Drink plenty of fluids. Only wear a bra when you have to (at work, while out of the house) and take it off ASAP!

well 6 months old is a growth-spurt period... and yes, intake and hunger increases, 24/7, day and night.
Every 3 months, is a growth-spurt period in a baby....

You seem to have a lot of pumped milk and are pumping milk fine...
direct nurse her on breast, whenever you are home... that will also help increase your milk supply...

6 months is a good age to start introducing new foods. I'd start with veggies like yams, squash, avacado, carrots and move on to fruits, grains, meats, and whole milk yogurt and cheese (once she hits aroun 9 months). Feeding her solids will make the milk you're pumping go farther and you may not have to worry about depleating your stores :)

2 ideas.

start her on cereal. she can have 1 or 2 meals of cereal while at day care adn that will fill her up more. she is 6 months she can have cereal now..

increase your milk supply. take fenugreek.. it really really works.. start with 2 capsules per day.. she how it effects you.. it upset my tummy a bit..but it really increased my supply.. I think I needed it at about 6 months too.

you can also increase you supply by nursing more when you are home.. go in and put that sleeping baby on the breast at 10 pm... let her nurse for a good long time.. that will increase supply also..
