Baby Ear Piercing

I would like to get my baby girl's ears pierced. I am still hesitating and considering the pros & cons. What was your experience? Would you do it again? And also, where did you get them pierced. Should I just walk in to any jewelry store? I would be thankful for sharing your experience!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you so much for your responses! I would never thought of Claire's. We went there on Sunday. She cried a bit, but after 5 minutes was smiling again. The earrings are nicely centered and baby looks more adorable then ever :-) She is not tugging on them (probably didn't find them yet) and when I turn them it doesn't seem to hurt her. Now I just hope the holes will heal nicely.
Baby ear piercing is a tradition in my country. That was the major reason why I decided to have them done. Also I think it heals better at this age based on my own expierence. I have earrings since the age of 2 weeks (!) and it healed without problems. Later as a teenager I had done more ear piercings and it got infected and never healed. And that pain!
Well, as my husband says.. "now you lost a strong motivation tool for the future." I think though that the motivation could be also replacing baby earrings with the "adult" ones. ;-)

I know why people pierce baby's ears. But I think that any girl should have a say in the matter. Plus I can use the desire for earings as a reward for good grades or excellent behavior later in life.

My older daughter did have her ears pierced at the age of four and I regret it. For one, hearing her scream was a million times worse than ever hearing her cry while getting her vaccines because I did have to do this to her but I chose to anyway. I asked the woman doing it if it does in fact hurt less when they are babies and she said that the babies scream just as much. For another thing, my daughter has turned into quite a tomboy so it was all for nothing.

Hi S.,
I did not let my daughter's get their ears pierced until they were about 10 years old. I thought(mistakenly) that the best place to take my them to was the jewelry store in our area. Big mistake. The guy did a terrible job and my daughter ended up having to close up her ears and try it again 2 years later. I asked several girls where they got their ears pierced and everyone said Claires. Claire's did an awesome job. Hope this helps. N.

I had my daughter's done at that age and aside for the second of pain she experienced on each ear, which I'm going to tell you right now almost brought me to my knees, she looked absolutely adorable. The plus side is that, provided you have it done professionally, use proper earrings, keep clean and turn them often, at her age, she is much less likely to get a hold of them. The first couple of days is the hardest because lobe is tender and you have to turn them periodically while the hole heals. I recommend getting it done at that age, I know of a few children who had it done at 1 and 2 and had very difficult experiences because of the child being able to tug at it.....Good Luck to you! You can find out or just ask if they specialize in piercing baby ears, if they are in any way a little apprehensive about their response....look elsewhere.....

i actually did not pierce my daughters ears until she was 8.
But, we went into clairs in the mall. I thought she said 2
of them would pierce them at the same time. But, it did not
happen that way. My daughter really wanted them and said just do it. I felt she appeared a bit unqualified. I had to remain calm for my daughter.it was scary. I would suggest that you
ask questions ask for the manager and the next most experienced to do them. Double check the pen mark that it is centered and remember tylenol and motrin before she goes.
God bless your adventure and a quick healing and peace over your choice. T.
