Ok ladies so here is the deal. My 8 month old daughter came with me to work today and while I try to keep her contained on her play mat with toys she usually manages to find something else to play with. Today she found a piece of blue party streamer (where it came from I have absolutely no idea!) and of course it went straight into her mouth!!! I called the doctor as soon as I noticed because I was worried the dye might be toxic and thank goodness there is nothing to worry about there, but now I have a blue baby!! Her face is mostly cleaned but her hands are really blue. I have used soap and water but it's just not doing the trick. We have two huge family events this weekend and I would rather not have a smurf in all my pictures instead of my adorable daughter!! Any ideas for safe removal??

So it turns out that baby saliva was the best thing (again thank goodness it was nontoxic)! Because my daughter is teething her hands are constantly in her mouth and it kind of came off on its own. I soaked her in a bath before bed and used some olive oil and that did the trick! The only place it didn't come off of was her nails and they were do for a trim anyway!

Sometimes things come off with oil that won't come off with soap. Maybe massage her with a bit of olive oil before her bath. Worst case scenario, olive oil is good for her skin so she'll be soft and blue :-) Good luck.

Agree...take the pics then try Olive Oil! I use it to remove my mascara and it's gentle and very effective. Hope this helps ;)
LOL, My son keeps getting markers and likes to color his forehead. Try baby wipes, works for markers!

And I gotta tell ya darling, there is probably not a thing you can do about it. And don't try to get creative either because you might wind up doing more harm than good.
I agree with Starr - take lot of pictures!! It will wear off eventually.
Oh no! At least she won't have a big black eye in all her Easter pics like my daughter will!

Hello, I don't know if my idea will work, but I don't think it could be considered unsafe. You might try baby oil. A few years ago, my youngest son was back home with us. I was babysitting my three grandsons who are very active and full of fun. Well, the oldest one thought it would be funny to draw a mustache on my son with a PERMANENT MARKER. Of course, I didn't know it until my son walked out of the bedroom. This happened early in the morning when my son was still sleeping. Anyway, when he walked out I couldn't help but laugh while I was trying to discipline my oldest grandson. My son was going to go to a job interview and we were in a pickle as to how to get this off. Finally, I thought about baby oil and suggested he try it. Thank goodness, it did work. My grandson is now 14 and we do still laugh about it. I did also have to have a talk with all of the boys about not doing such things.

Try a little olive oil on it. Like dissolves like, and this is probably the reason why the dye is so hard to remove with soap and water. BTW, olive oil works great for removing stubborn fake tattoos (like the kind they give away at Fresh N Easy).
Try letting her play in the bath for a while. Our kids have played with stamps and discolored their hands pretty good. throughout the day with normal washings it seems to go away pretty good, that and a bath where their hands basically soak in water. Good luck. Definately take pics before you get it all off. =)
Try baby oil. That works really well for face paints and egg coloring dyes.

High grade tea tree oil (at least T36-C5) has a solvent quality and will remove it safely on your little one. (I have removed permanent marker, ink, oil based paint, lipstick and much more...) I use Melaleuca brand because it is completely non-caustic. If you go to the health store to get some, ask them about the brand they sell.

Ha! smurf baby! I think you can just wipe her the best you can. Even nail polish remover would not get rid of that dye (not that anyone would ever use it on a babies skin) . I do special events and this is why I NEVER use streamers..
It will be a funny memory for everyone to remember the "famous Easter" when your daughter was a Smurf..
FYI, I swear my sisters children always seemed to have a bump, scratch stitches or boo, boo that is visible for every holiday when they were younger.. It NEVER failed.. Now that they are teenagers, they ask why their "mother always beat them up before every holiday".. Ha!... and my sister has no sense of humor.. Justice..
I would try hand sanitizer, the alcohol might help. Good luck!
She is going to be the life of the gathering. lol Not to worry mom, try using a delicate cream on her hands, aloe vera cream, you want something with a little bit of greasiness so that you can clean her hands. If you have baby oil in the house use it on her hands. These are only things that I would try myself. At least you know that neither will harm her.

Take LOTS of pictures :) Seriously!! I had a similiar thing happen with my now 12 yr old daughter. She found a permanent marker when she was about 16 months old and WENT TO TOWN ON HERSELF. I cried and cried - family pictures were the next day and couldn't be changed (long story). I scrubbed that kid raw (not really, but you know what I mean), but you could still see those marks. To top it off, she still didn't have any hair yet and had totally done her scalp, which I cannot even tell you how nasty that looked. 10 years later? That is my very favorite family photo and she LOVES hearing about how it happened (even at 12, she brings it up about every 2 months). I miss those days with all my kids and that picture (even remembering the event and how I feel about those pictures makes me a little weepy even as I type this) reminds me of those times.
I promise - you WILL look back and laugh. One more thing . . . if you really can't get it off of her by the events, make sure to play it up and laugh about it. Everyone else will, too :)
hi mom first let me start off by saying happy easter to you and your family but i just suggest you take her to the doctor and maybe he can give you some tips on how to get thats blue dye out and i know we as mother dont want to take ours kids to the doctor for every little thing but it might help so good luck with that and i hope i was a little help with that good luck mom and happy easter again have fun what ever you do god bless.
