Hi Q. - I wouldnt worry about it too much. It's probably a new taste and he's just reacting to the strong flavor. You'll find that eitherhe likes them or he wont.

My son does exactly the same thing with rice. Over and over and over again, since he was a baby, he tries it and simply doesnt like it.

It's probably just the texture. My son would gag if he ever touched a banana!

what's wrong with that? I'm sure there are foods that you don't like. He is only human after all and there will be foods he doesn't like.

My first thought would not be the taste, but the texture. Pears are very grainy, and he might have a texture issue. Find another food with a similar texture that is in his age range to test that theory. I am assuming, of course, that you are giving him homemade smooshed pears and not from a grocery store shelf.

As long as he's getting other fruits it's not really a big deal. My whole family doesn't eat pears very often either. My daughter won't eat meat, we make sure she gets protein elswhere...the girl LOVES beans!

H Q.,

Avocado is a perfect food and it was the first food my chiropractor introduced to her daughter. This little one is not a fan of sweets and never gets sick. It has a nice texture and is flavorful. It has the right nutrients and is a healthy fat. It is very different from the texture and taste of a pear. Many of the baby food companies put pears in their foods as a filler because it is inexpensive. It is a good fruit but I don't think that is why it is in everything. Sweet potato is also a good option.

Her tastes will change several times over the next couple of years. Just go with the flow and make sure she is getting the nutrition she needs!

God bless,
M.

A baby's taste-buds develops over time.
THUS, the periodic taste like/dislikes in a baby or child.
For now, he finds the pear to be "sour."
That's fine. He does not have to eat it.

The taste buds, are not fully developed at birth.

Maybe it's the grainy texture that he doen't like. My grandaughter only started eating, and liking them this last year (she's 9 years old)

Q.,
It probably is just too sweet. try giving him a bit of apple juice first and then the pear bite. He might just need to work up to it the sweetness. my baby does the same thing.
