I was curious if any of you had taken your young children to a Baby Day showing at the Alamo Drafthouse. I was wondering what it is like... are there a lot of people? Are there very young children like 6-12 month olds that are there? My friend and I both have 10 month old boys and neither of us have been to a movie since before the kids were born. We were interested in taking our kids to a Baby Day showing of one of the kids movies out but we weren't sure what it would be like or if this is just a bad idea overall.

What can I do next?

My sister and I went with our kids when mine was about 4 months and hers was almost 12 months.

We took a couple of very small flashlights with us for a couple of reasons. 1) To look for anything we or the kids dropped. 2) To read the menu after lights were dimmed. and, 3) To give the 12 month old a distraction when he was getting bored. We sat a little distance away from other patrons, and I was able to quietly nurse my child after it was dark (and under a blanket, of course). All in all, it was a pretty decent escape for us moms, and wasn't too expensive.

The movie selections are certainly not geared toward kids, but the food is good and nobody else cares if your kid makes noise.

We tried to take our daughter to a baby day show at the Lake Creek Alamo when she was 1 month old. There were only about 10 people there. But, it was no different than a normal show so we walked out (it was loud). While doing so, the manager asked why we wanted a refund and we told him. he offered to turn the volume down, but there were no other babies there so we felt bad asking them to do that...it was pretty close to Christmas, so alot of people may have been off, it may be different now, that was just our experience. Good Luck!

I have taken my children there. They were about 3 months and 15 months at the time. I would say that there were 10 moms there with kids of all ages. It was a very nice outting. We didn't have to worry about the kids being crabby. I loved it. Go and enjoy!

I took our now 16 month old there a lot when he was 0-9 months. After 9 months, he was too active, wanting to crawl all the time so he wouldn't be still. Most of the babies I've seen there are of the pre-crawling age or those that are more chill. (Our kid is anything but chill...) Some shows there were lots of other moms with babies and other times he was the only baby. Just depends. If you are thinking that your son is going to watch the movie with you, I highly doubt it. It's for the moms and not so much the babies. The babies usually fall asleep. Also, I wouldn't feel bad about asking them to turn the movie sound down. There are signs up all over warning folks that it's baby day. Also, don't freak out if you have some crying. Again, the other movie goers have been forewarned.

I went once when my baby was very young. It was actually pretty nice. If I recall correctly they left the lights up a bit. It was just us and one baby-less couple in the theater. I think it would be great if you were going as a group. You would probably have a good time.

Also, baby day is for any show, not just kid movies. If the child looks like they would be trying to watch the show, then it would be best for a kid oriented movie. Otherwise they let kids into their all ages movies at any time.
