I just used a regular food processor and regular ice cube trays (although the trays with the lids are nice). I froze it in the ice cube trays for 24 hrs. then popped them into freezer bags and labeled them.
Now that my little guy is finally cleared to start cereal, I am interested in making my own baby food. Have any of you tried the Baby Bullet or another baby food maker? Or would you recommend just using a regular food processor?

Just use a regular food processor or blender!!! The baby ones they sell are just a marketing ploy! You don't need all that fancy stuff - just use ice cube trays to freeze and then put the cubes into a plastic bag. We have a Magic Bullet (seriously, the best of our wedding gifts!) and that worked perfectly fine!!! I was looking at the baby bullet and think that it doesn't let you make large quantities so you won't have the luxury of making/freezing ahead of time. Maybe it has changed though? But seriously, if you have other means, don't waste your money on yet another "baby specific" product!!!
I just used a regular food processor. No need to buy something special or expensive.
I just used a mini food processor. Make extra and freeze in ice cube trays.
My daughter just used a regular blender and froze it in ice cubes..... very easy!
Save your money. A regular food processor is all you need. I will admit thought that I used my small food processor more than my regular size one. In fact, I used it so much that it broke!
I used the regular magic bullet. I love it and its super easy. I actually save the plastic gerber containers to freeze the food I make. I personally found them the easiest. Plus, super low cost. They aren't the most durable, but I would sometimes buy that food for convenience anyway and the containers are so handy.
Also, regarding making baby food, my biggest piece of advice is to mess around with different mixes. I "tricked" my daughter into liking a lot of foods by mixing them in with fruit. Then, I would transition to just giving her that veggie on its own.
My daughter loved the idea of using the Baby Bullet. It's attractive and fun to use. It came with individual containers that fit in a tray for refrigeration or freezing. It has two sizes of containers so that you can process large batches. And she uses it, as one would use the regular Bullet, for foods other than baby foods.
Yes, you can use a small food processor and ice cube trays and/or small covered containers. It's just not as much fun. lol
She was surprised at how short a time she used it for baby food. When her daughter was around 10 months she started eating table food from her parent's plates. They just smashed it up for her. She only has 2 teeth but she gums it.
My daughter is not sorry that she bought the Baby Bullet. She continues to use it for adult foods. It's still more attractive than the plain Jane Bullet. lol
for money matters i understand that you should just use a food processor as the baby bullet only makes small amounts at a time. Another neg about the baby bullet is that your only going to use it for six months or less depending on your child. But it is so darn cute :D
I too just used a regular food processor - mine has a smaller bowl that fits into the bigger compartment so it was a perfect size. I didn't use ice cube trays though, I used the snack size food baggies. I was able to make enough 'meals' for my daughter to last about a month so i could freeze them flat in the baggies and then she got something different every day. This also allowed me to make different mixes to offer more variety. Kuddos for making your own baby food!
I used an old fashioned baby food grinder. It was my Mom's (for when I was little) and you put the food in and cranked a handle. The old things were definitely built to last!!
Anyways, I would use it to grind chicken, vegetables, fruit - just about anything. I loved being able to know exactly what my babies were eating.
Good luck!!!
