Try this website... if you do the "advanced" page, it gives you stuff like price of milk, gas, etc. And it's free.
Good luck! B.
As the youngest child my baby book had almost nothing in it. Even though this has always bugged me, I am doing the same thing with my own children. I have been slacking so much on my kids' baby books and am now trying to finish them up. I am completely stumped by the page that has info on what was happening in the world when they were born. Does anyone have a child born August 2003, August 2005 or January 2007 that actually finished their baby books. Here is what I am still trying to find: hit TV shows; prices of milk, bread, gasoline & postage stamp; world news and leaders, national events and leaders, local news and leaders; sports heroes. I've been able to get movies, books, music & fashion info already. I know this is an odd request, but I'm sure some of you other moms had to have been better at filling out this info than me. Also, do you know of anything else that might be fun to record? Thanks.
Thanks so much for all the responses. You guys are great! I decided to order birthday scrolls for all 3 and just use that to cover over that page in their books. I can't wait to get them and get all the baby books caught up.

I have one born 01-07, but I used baby express this time too! It saves SO much time and it's customized to your baby's exact b-day! Buy the 5x7 size and you can just paste it in the baby book. I got mine from www.birthdayexpress.com too. It makes an awesome gift for other mamas like you!

You could probably Google things like the price of milk. But here is what I suggest...There are a couple of websites you can go to and get BABY NAME SCROLLS. These scrolls list everything you are looking for, yes they do cost money but very minimal. Visit www.bkeepsakes.com or www.birthdayexpress.com
There is a company called Birthday Keepsakes that will send you a sheet personalized for your child with both their personal info (birth weight, time of birth, etc.) AND list events that happened on the very DAY they were born, Headlines of that week, Famous events that happened on their DOB as well as famous people who share their birthdate. It also has infor about the year they were born (popular shows, etc.), Prices of common goods such as stamps, gas and movie tickets, Top News stories and Fashions. You can choose the paper design and can even get them framed. I got the ones for my kiddos unframed just so I could place them in their baby books and it cost me around $20 for 2 of them. I bet if you Google Birthday Keepsakes (they are based out of Loveland, Co) you could order online.
I don't have a ton of info, but my son was born 7/31/05 so close enough!
popular tv shows: lost, 24, desperate housewives, the oc, the sopranos
popular actors: brad pitt, angelina jolie, charlize theron
books: a million little pieces by james frey
fashion trends: layered tank tops, worn jeans, capris, wedge sandals
prices:
gallon of milk: $2
loaf of bread: $2
diapers: $18/pack of 64
movie ticket: $8.50
postage stamp: .37
gallon of gas $3
doing a google search for the specific info you're looking for. for example, here is the oscar's website where you can see past years winners, that will give you popular movies and actors. I typed in oscar awards 2005.

I saved the newspaper from the day the kids were born. I had to call the newspaper for the first one and remembered to buy it on the day for the second one. Like the other suggestion said, call the newspaper and they should have extra copies. It wasn't that long ago. They charge more than a regular paper but you'll also have a giant envelop to keep it in.
My second son was born 12/06 so close to 1/07. I had friends help me fill out that page so I know it's completed. Email me if you need info - ____@____.com.
Hi C.!
My daughter was born 8/27/05. Hurricane Katrina was happening in that month. In fact, it induced my labor and my daughter was born 8 weeks premature!! That's the most memorable happening I can think of for August 2005. Everything else is a blur.
Good luck with your books!!

I bought a couple of birthday scrolls for my kids, and it has all of the events in history on their birth, including astrology, news, historical events, weather and business, sports, tv, books, movies, songs, and signs of the times. It's really worth the $10 or so for each scroll! Good luck!
Have you contacted your local newspaper? They usually have copies of back dated papers? You can purchase them. Or check with your library. Hope this helps.
I got my info from HistoryChannel.com they're great for us that would rather live life with our kids than fill in the blanks (what I tell my hubby when he says I'm slacking on the book)...
I bought one of these pages -- it might be the more costly option; but I think each page is reasonable; and surely gives you lots of detail for what you are looking for (ie. national news, postage stamp rates, grocery items costs etc). Plus, also who celebrates bday on this month -- and lots more
