Baby Body Odor?

My 7 month old son has body odor! His doctor has never heard of that in a child so young. He ordered a test to see if he has a metobolic disorder and he doesn't, but I'm just curious if anyone has ever heard of that and what did you do about it.

It is actually directly on his arm pits, and only if you smell right on them.

What can I do next?

First off, and not meant to put you down, but is he being held by anyone with odor? My eldest was always getting complaints from his great-grandmother that he smelled, but it was just that the heat and all the people that held him left their odors on him. Second, baby powder can effectively be used on all of the body. If it continues, scented wipeys. It is most likely that the odor is coming from some source outside sweat glandsand/or B.O., something he is doing that you are not aware of. He could be placing his hands in his mouth and wiping saliva that creates smells, or putting his hands in the other end (which is extremely normal at that age). However, like the fact that some boys lactate for the first few months, sometimes the glands themselves are pre-productive and it should all resolve itself.

Could it be a reaction to the soap, shampoo or laundry detergent you are using?

Please post and let us know what your doctor finds out in the tests. It definitely sounds like a defiency in the diet or a hormonal problem. I would suggest perhaps seeing a naturopath as well. They often can help permanently heal things that regular doctors only know how to treat the symptoms of. I've had a lot of luck helping my daughter's help through that kind of doctor. If you're in Tucson or Phoenix, send me a message and I can give you some names!

Good luck.

Hi, I don't know if this will help or not, but last year, my 2 year old got "body odor". She just smelled really bad! For 2-3 weeks it was driving me crazy...I would scrub her in the tub and vigorously brush her teeth (in case it was bad breath). I just couldn't figure out what was going on. Finally, we pulled out a piece of mucus that had been in her nose and attached to it was a 1/4 inch piece of sponge that she had stuck up there and it was starting to rot! Really, really gross (I'm actually feeling nauseous at the memory as I write this)!!! Could it be possible that your son managed to wedge something up there? He's a bit young, but you never know...Good luck!
