Baby Bathtubs for 18Lbs +

We had a wonderful bathtub we purchased at one step ahead - very comfy, not the hard plastic I used with the other kids. Our baby loved it. Now, he is outgrowing it, and I need a bathtub recommendation to take us from month 4/5 to when he is able to take a bath in the actual tub. Any recommendations? I have looked into the Euro tub, but I am concerned with storage, as it is quite large and we only have one full bath to accomodate all the people in the house!

EDIT: Kitchen sink is probably not an option, as we have a corner sink that is very small and not conducive to baby bathing. Thanks!

What can I do next?

this is going to sound off, but why not just get a big tupperware tub. put it in the big tub. then he's contained in the container! =) When he outgrows it use it for storing tub toys.

Hi S.-

I had one of those 'euro tubs' for my first...but when we moved stateside...it never showed up! Anyway...I took to bathing WITH my eldest in the tub...(or ex would)...saved water (lol) and was fun to boot!

Best Luck!

When my son was that age, we got an inflatable tub, I think it was about $13 at Babies R Us. It fits inside a walk in shower or a regular tub, and it felt a lot safer than putting him in the tub before he was a strong sitter.

I would save your money and either get in the tub with your little one or just take him in the shower. Believe it or not, it is really easy to shower with a baby that little and get them clean (without dropping them). It takes some practice, but it will save you time and money! :)

I went through several options and found 2 that worked well for me, I have staples in my knees for college softball and can't be on my knees very long. I feel both are safe options even if I sit beside the tb on the toilet and just let the bay play in the water. I feel they are both safe with proper supervision. Then rinsing off and putting up is easy too.

The best and first option I would give you is the expandable tub I have several of. I keep them and give them as gifts to friends with new babies. If I see them at thrift stores I am going to buy them. I fell that strongly about them.

This link is not an exact picture but gives the general look. The tub is white and condenses and expandes for quick and easy storage and clean up. There is (mine has one) a blue half circle ring that pops in and out for the smaller ones. It easily comes out for older kids who like to play in the tub and it uses much less water.

The next closest thing would be the Summer line:

This is my close second. The baby sits in the circle, it is pretty safe, they can slide a bit but not really out of the circle. Always use with direct supervision. The adult leans on the part that fits over the side of the tub and it cushions the breasts while leaning over. It is very safe with an adult right there. I had 2 of them and gave one away as a gift.

I used a bathing sponge to sit/lie the baby on IN the regular bathtub. Worked great--and I had them all--always found baby tubs to be awkward.

We used this inflatable duck tub. They're less than $10.00 at Walmart. As soon as they're able to stand we started giving showers.

i agree with B. don't stress over it. at 4/5 months they don't care what kind of tub they're in. really. i wouldn't spend the money. if he's too big for the baby tub then put a folded up towel on the floor and run a bath. (the towel is for your knees lol) in and out and done. no biggie.

My DD was 6 months old when I started putting her in the regular tub... BUT if you aren't comfortable doing that you could look into getting one of those inflatable rubber duck bathtubs from walmart, or a bath seat.

I had an inflatable tub and used it until my oldest son was 2 1/2. It was safe, clean, used less water, and easy hung in shower to dry. It was like this one...

I have seen them at Babies R Us, Target, and Buy Buy Baby.

When my son was in that in between stage, I used the kitchen sink.
I scrubbed it up, rinsed it out well (no soap residue), put a hand towel on the bottom for a little traction and comfort and bathed him there.
It worked fine right up until he could grab the spray hose and spray me with it.
By then he was about ready for the big tub.
During the summer, sometimes I'd get out a washtub and bathe him outside on the deck. They come in all sizes and it's all most of our great grand mothers had to work with.
