My 11 MO daughter has been severely afraid of people besides me and her dad. Well she is letting up on that fear, but for a few months now she seems to be afraid of everything.....Cows accross a field through a window, toys that shake, sand at the beach, water (besides a bath).....the list goes on.
I would like to hear from any moms who have children like mine who are just fine now, how the transition came about.
I would also like to hear from moms who have children like mine who are still afraid of many things. How do you deal with it? Do your children ever confront their fears?
From an attahment parenting point of view, what can i do to help my daughter be less afraid of the world?

What can I do next?

For a while there my baby was the same way at around 12 months. the only thing i tried and it worked was to "love on" everything that scared her. like if my mom came over i would hug my mom close and say "aawwweee i love Nana see mommy is loving on Nana." then she would stop crying and want what i had. my advise it to try that on a few things and keep doing it. Now adays ( she is 17 months now) if i pick up a doll and go awwee she has to run over and hug it too haa haa
Good Luck

Kids are usually a little more in tune with what is going on around them. It is normal to have some fears because as she is getting older she is realizing that things are not always safe.
But my son has unreasonable fears sometimes but this is primarily because he has OCD, and other disorders. If you think there could be a disorder involved I would start to journal the abnormnal things going on.

My daughter was like that and part of it is as she gets older she will outgrow it but also get her out around other kids and experiencing new things. My daughter dramatically improved after being in day care just 1 day per week because I had to work but she was more friendly, social, and not afraid of things the way she was. I would suggest some play dates with not only kids her age but older also. Good Luck she will be fine:)

hi! i have a 21 month old daughter who is afraid of people besides mom and dad. we try to go to as many playdates as possible. we have a zoo membership. she really loves it and it is a great oppertunity for the both of you. katie also goes to The Little Gym. that will make her more confident and healthy. it's great exercise. it will also give you a chance to talk to other mom's. it's so hard i completely understand. you just have to gently and lovingly expose her to new safe exsperiences. sorry can't spell lol!!! good luck!!!

Hi Shannon,
Is this being scared something that all of a sudden came up? Was she always like this, or was she social and unafraid before? It might be the unfamiliar that she's afraid of, and I would try Rebekah's suggestion of loving on things she's afraid of so that she can see that there is nothing to be afraid of. My son is afraid of my friend's daughter who is 18 mos old. He's two years old. She's always wanting to love on him, but he doesn't want anything to do with her. I think it's because he doesn't have enough exposure to little children. My friend's other daughter who is 5, he loves to play with her. So may be try to expose your child to more of what she fears, and show her that there is nothing to be afraid of and let her see Mommy love on those things she fears. I bet she'll eventually grow out of that stage. And she will love her womanhood. Best wishes, G.
