You don't have to. Every brand has different times lines and flows. All you are doing is getting the food to them faster. Therefore, they eat more in a faster amount of time. I never followed those guides. I also do that beacause I am breast feeding (full time worker) and I try not to make it easier by bottle.

I don't really remember switching the nipples - I used the ones the hospital gave me till they stopped using a bottle. When I was leaving the hospital they gave me same pre-made formula and single sealed nipples... we only used 2 bottles a day washing them after every use, which ment we only used 2 nipples. So, I stored the other ones still sealed till the open ones wore out and the opened 2 new ones.

I did try other nipples, just didn't like them. I think the switching should be based on your baby - not what the package says. If you switch them to early, it may cause them to chock on the formula. So, be careful when switching them.

I didn't switch nipple-flow until my son was 6 months old. Then I just did it. He coughed once or twice and then figured it out.

It depends on the baby. You can try the bigger ones. If your little one doesn't choke its fine. If they choke or gag wait a while then try again. I wound up waiting with both my kids til they were about six months old to switch, and then we just stayed with that size til they were done with the bottle at 12 months.

Hi K.,
I believe my baby was 4 or 5 mos when I switched. It depends on them. I noticed it seemed she wasn't getting enough milk through her nipples so I switched and sucking for her was much better. It depends on the brand you use as to the nipple type. Good luck.

It depends on the baby , if you feel that he/she would like a faster flow nipple then change to the next level. I never changed flow types with any of my kids and they were fine.

You don't have to. Check the packaging and pick out the next level if you think your baby is ready. I think they are fine with the newborn nipples for awhile, I think I switched to the next flow at around 6 months.

You never HAVE to change the flow. It's actually better to keep the flow low so that they don't gulp down large amounts of liquid in a short amount of time.
