Baby #3

My hubby and I are talking about trying for baby #3 some time this year. I had c-sections with both of my kids (one by force and one voluntary)and we are both concerned about the effects that a third pregnancy and a third c-section might have on my body. I guess what I'm asking is has anyone had a third c-section or even fourth and if so were there any special precautions that you had to take or any complications as a result. I have already spoken to my OB about all of this and of course he gave me a whole bunch of information to read that gives you the worst case scenario and scares the heck out of you. I'm really wanting to hear from other moms who have been through it and their experiences.

Thanks
A.

A., I have a friend with 5 kiddos, all delivered by c-section. Have you considered a VBAC? (vaginal birth after caesarean). I know many doctors won't do them, there are issues involved, so research it. For the docs, I know they don't want to be held responsible for any complications, though they are rare. It's a tough decision. Good luck to you!

Hi A., I've had an ovary removed and then 3 c-sections, so I've had 4 surgeries in exactly the same spot. I didn't have any complications with any of my surgeries or pregnancies. My first baby was breech so the Dr. scheduled a c-section. Everything went as planned. The others were just repeats. I'm glad I choose to get repeat c-sections; my second weighe 9 lbs. The last 2 c-sections took a little longer because the Dr. has to cut through more scar tissue to get to the baby. Also, with my last 2 pregnancies I went into labor before the scheduled c-section date. I doubt it's related to c-sections, but it happened to me. My 2nd was 2 weeks early(38 weeks) and 3rd was 3 weeks early(37 weeks) and weighed 7.5 lbs. Both perfectly healthy.
I do remember after the first c-section, I was afraid to move because I didn't want it to hurt; well, my insides were beginnning to stick to the scar and when I told the Dr. I felt tugging inside she told me to move/walk more. I did start walking more and eventually the tugging feeling went away. The last c-section was the best because I had no pain at the incision. I guess the nerves decided not to grow back. I was up and walking the next day with no pain. My last baby was born a year ago and still today I have no feeling over about half of the incision site.
I haven't heard any horror stories due to multiple c-sections and I didn't ask my Dr. about it either; so for me, it wasn't a concern. I didn't know that there was anything to be concerned about.
I hope my story makes you feel better. Take care.

That is a tough decision all the way around. I would recommend you have the doctor check you out and be very careful. I work for a doctor who does fetal MRi's on women with complications and we have seen several women come in after having multiple c-sections and have placenta previa or accreta. One had the placenta go through the incision and attatch itself to the bladder. That is a very dangerous thing. I have two both by c-section and have thought about the same thing but i feel the risk to too much as does the doc i work for, my ob says its ok but the one i work for sees that happen all the time so it's hard. If you do decide to try again, i would recomment you see a doctor very early on and see if they can determine where the placenta is to make sure it is not over the incision. Good Luck!!!

Hi A.,

I had 4 c-sections. The first one was forced, the other 3 voluntary. My children are all 2 years apart. I felt fine after the first 3. I was up and walking around in 2 days after all of them. The 4th one was more difficult because the doctor wanted to aggressively remove scar tissue after she delivered my baby. Still, I would do it all over again if I were younger. I had my last at 33. You are so young and I assume healthy. I say, if you and your husband want more chidren and you feel healthy enough, then go for it. My first 3 were delivered by the same doctor and she told me that if I had a 4th, she wouldn't deliver him/her. So, I switched doctors because I was determined to have at least 4 children. One last thing. Get rid of the baby weight before becoming pregnant again. I was heavier with my last one and I think that made a difference.

Best of luck to you; I wish you well,

Michelle

Hi A.!
Well, your story hit right home with me! I've had three c-sections. I was so concerned when my hubby and I unintentionally became pregnant with our third daughter (6 months post-partum from our 2nd daughter!!!), since I had already had two c-sections. But my OB wasn't a bit worried. Not one bit. Of course there are always exceptions to any situation...as it sounds like you read about in the info from your doc...but for most, multiple c-sections is NO BIG DEAL at all. I asked my OB how many is too many, and she jokingly replied, "Well, maybe like EIGHT or something!" Just do all the things you know to do to be healthy, and most importantly don't let yourself get STRESSED over it. If I have another, which my hubby hopes we will...not sure if I can go there yet!!! haha...then it'll be another c-section for me, too. Guess we can just can just consider ourselves veterans! I hope this eases your mind a little and that everything goes well for you. I'll say a little prayer for you, since I think I know exactly how you feel! God bless!

i have had 2 c sections but i also just had a hysterectomy and it was an abdomenal procedure too. i am 38 and i did fine. just follow the instructions cuz the healing takes a lil longer, then when you are real young, like i was, to recover.
