Babies and Jobs and Moving, Oh My!!

Ok so I'm going absolutley nutty right! Not only am I working full time at a crappy job but I'm also working on all of my websites and dealing with a baby that is learning to run- not walk. All of this and we have to find a place in the next two weeks.

I have been looking online and working with some agents to find an apartment on the northside of Chicago and while we are finding some nice places, nothing really "hits the spot". Well now it almost doesn't matter. My lease is up in a month and we have to let my landlord know on Monday what we plan on doing!

What I'd love to do, ideally, is work with an actual homeowner or condo owner and rent something up north. But I dont know if that is possible because almost all of them work with agencies. I've looked in the paper and have just walked around but it's still challenging.

Any advice on websites (besides CL which I have abused looking at it so much) or suggestions?

I'm open!

Couple of good sources for finding apts on northside. The Chicago Reader Space finder is really great. Also, alot of times you can find apts in the weekly bulletin of a local parish. Landlords who have space to rent will advertise in the weekly bulletin trying to find local families with investment in neighoborhood. Alot of parishes will have their weekly bulletin on their website too.
I'm in Edgwater by Clark and Devon - lots of great apt for rent up here but most people rely on posting signs and word of mouth. Great family neighborhood and close to red line, Clark and Broadway bus. Not to mention the lakefront.

Look on Craigslist. Many home owners that are renting a second home list there. I would also drive around the area that you are interested in & you will find for rent signs. There are tons of places to rent right now.

Hi K.,

You should try the company the Apartment People, look online, checkout those little magazines you find near the train station or bookstore(similar to TV guide). Two areas that might be affordable up north are over by Jarvis and Western or Devon and Western. Also, try the Real Estate company called Urban Equities. They have some really affordable properties. Six years ago I found a studio for almost $550 and all utilities were included.

Have a wonderful Valentine's weekend!

Where up north are you looking? My significant other lives in a condo building, 6 units, at 5618 W. Lawrence. The two units still available, I think the developer is willing to rent them, are on the first floor and absolutely huge. The building is less than 3 years old. Also, have you worked with Apartment People? I believe they have sevearl offices including one around Belmont and Broadway and perhaps one in Evanston. for the farther north side. Good luck.
