Babies and Chiropractors

My son just turned one last week. He is a terrible sleeper. He had never slept through the night. He doesn't take a pacifier and will usually only calm back down to sleep by nursing.

He used to do 4-6 hour stretches around 5-6 months then it got progressively worse to up every 2-3 hours. Around 7 months we tried letting him cry it out, it took about a week of him crying with me or DH checking on him regularly to make sure he was okay. It helped him get back to 6 hour stretches for a while. We have tried CIO again but it doesn't seem to help. We live in a small apartment so him crying is hard on all of us plus he shares a room with my 4 year old son. During CIO we have the 4 year old bunk with my 6 year old daughter.

He is back in a pattern of being up every 2-3 hours and it is killing me. I am exhausted. I know I asked about using a lovely and we are trying that but it is not helping nor is him sleeping with one of my shirts. He doesn't co-sleep well as we have tried that too. He still wakes up and doesn't like to snuggle back with me to sleep.

Now to my question, a friend on FB suggested I try the chiropractor for him saying it worked for her son. I am not against this just want some more feedback I guess. Has anyone taken their baby to the chiropractor and did it help them?

What can I do next?

We had great success with a chiropractor for my then 14mo son to get rid of his ear infections. I think it is worth seeing a good chiro who has experience with children to see what they say. Sinus problems, back or neck discomfort, digestive issues, and fluid in ears are all problems that could cause sleep problems and could be helped by some chiro visits. Good luck and let us know what happens.

I don't trust them - I was in more pain after seeing a chiro than I was before. I wouldn't let one near my baby.

When my youngest was an infant, she was colicky and barely slept at night. Worse than that, she was clearly in pain from not being able to digest properly. Rather than cutting every food out of my diet (I was nursing), I had heard that a chiro could help too. So I took my daughter regularly from the time she was 10 weeks to about 5 months. It helped so much! She slept better, had better and more regular bm's, and was much happier all around. I can't say enough about it. Some babies just need alternative help to fix whatever might be going on inside that we can't see, like adults! I see a chiropractor regularly and it has not only helped my posture, but my own digestion, menstrual cycles, stomach, you name it. I think they are amazing doctors! Go for it!

I personally have seen a chiroin the last few years and think they are great, I haven't taken my babies because honestly it never occured to me at the time,
I think I would want to be adjusted by this person a few times and also know that they specialize in kids.

My aunt's chiro adjusts all the amish infants in their area of OH. and seems to have a real gift for children.

While infants are delicate they are pretty resilient too. so I think it would be worth trying.

I have been going since I was 17 and my daughter has been going since birth (she is 6 now). We don’t get sick very often and if we do it only lasts a few days. I take her in if she gets congested and it helps to drain the sinus and ears. My daughter has never taken or needed antibiotics.

There are so many benefits to chiropractic care, including sleeping, allergies, etc.

I have a little guy in my care that had not just an acid reflux problem, but he just couldn't seem to keep anything down. He was 10 months old and we could only get him to keep very thin baby food down, and sometimes not that. For some reason he especially would throw up in the evenings and then he couldn't even keep the formula down.

Anyway, someone recommened a Chiro. and they've been seeing her for about a month, it has made a big difference. He's not yet able to be off his acid reflux meds, but they have cut back. He can eat most anything now. I was really worried about them doing this with guy so little, but it certainly has helped.

I loooooooooooove my chiropractor and if I were having problems like this with my baby, I would certainly consider takeing her to see her. However, I must add, she has been my chiro for years and I trust her like nobody's business. I would have to be reeeeeeeeeeeeally confident in my doctor before I turned my baby's back & neck over to them. Lots of questions, lots of interviewing, lots of credential checking. Good luck with the ZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz's.

I have been going to a chiropractor since I was 14. (I am now 30.) I have had both of my children adjusted since they were newborns. (They are 3.5 and 2.5) Just like with medical doctors, not all chiropractors are created equal. If you can find a reputable one I would definitely give it a try. The chiropractor we see now uses the gonstead method, which in my experience, has been the best method. He is very precise. He doesn't just "rack and crack" your entire spine, but takes readings (nerves/pressure/etc - I don't know all the technical terms) and adjusts just what needs adjusting. It has made a world of difference for me! :)

Both of our children go. They have been healthier and have had no further ear infections. I have hot heard about it helping with sleep but I would say it is worth a try.

I've seen it help my own babies and many others with a host of issues, including: reflux, colic, asthma, ear infections, frequent colds, etc. couldn't hurt! Find one that's used to working with children or has their own. My kids have been adjusted since birth!

Adults will often be in more pain than before the first few times, it's about retraining the spine and surrounding musculature after they've been in the incorrect positions for often years. Ice afterward can help with that!
