My sister sends her oldest daughter to Camp Kanakuk. He will either send her youngest there this year or next. My niece loves the camp. There are several different types of camps and it is for boys and girls.
My step son is 11 and will complete elementry school this year. My husband and I want to send him to a one or two week away from home summer camp. We think he is old enough to really enjoy the activities. Can anyone recommend a good, safe, fun camp that I can look into?
Many thanks!
J.

My son goes to a Christian camp called Frontier Camp. It's in Grapeland TX (about 2 hours from Houston. He was 11 when he went for the first time. When we went a week later to get him, he didn't want to come home. He had so much fun. From the time we got into the car to bring him home, all he talks about is camp and how he can't wait to go back. He is signed up again for this summer and is counting the days.
I grew up going to Camp Ozark. I went from age 8 to 16. I absolutely loved it.
My son has gone to the YMCA's Camp Cullen the last three years and will go again this summer. He loves it! He also did his first overnight camp experience at YMCA's Camp Pine Tree.
Camp Coyote. It's up by Huntsville, so it's not to far away. My daughter loved that camp. Good Luck.
check out the ymca. they do some overnight camps that sound really fun.
my cousins grew up on Camp Good News and I always wanted to attend...my parents never let me so I hated the summer because they would come back w/all these fun stories....all i ever did was sit at home and wait for school to start.....
Camp Cho Yeh in Livingston. My son went there for years, and loved it! http://www.cho-yeh.org/DesktopDefault.aspx
It's only about 1 hour north of Houston. They post photos online daily, so you can keep up with what they are doing.
My daughter went to Camp Cho-Yeh near Lake Livingston when she was that age. She had a ball. They had a "preview" weekend in April, don't know if they have another or not. It's a Christian camp - Presbyterian, I think. They do have a web site, you may want to check them out - although I believe they fill up fast. They've been around for YEARS.
Frontier Camp. Our church sends a gruop of children there every year.
